On a positive note, new rig, tremendous performance improvements expected, but at the cost of re-installation. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a consolidated airport bundle available on AVSIM. I don't know why anyone hasn't tackled that yet.

I hear you Jason! Will be in the same position this August. Going to get Haswell CPU, cooler, motherboard and memory but it will require re-installation of ~10GB of different stuff related to FSX. Frankly speaking flight simulation is the only thing that holds me on PC/Windows. Shouldn't take more than 2-3 days... LOL

Yep, every time I do it I think to myself "there has GOT to be an easier way". Last time I did it, it took me rough two months to get FSX back to where I wanted it. Way too long to go without flying!

Throughout the re-install process, I ran into 3rd party application problems which I didn't experience the first time so there was quite a bit of time spent troubleshooting and I learned a few things along the way as well. I also found that some of the versions I had downloaded prior were outdated so the versions of 3rd party software I'm running now are newer.

Saturday I took my time and it was mostly therapeutic. I decided to skip the Saturday night event in favor of getting more installation tasks and troubleshooting accomplished.

By Sunday afternoon/evening, my wrist was starting to get sore from being at the computer so long. Fortunately I was at a point where most of the 3rd party aircraft and applications were installed and some of the major airports so that I could take a break and fly the ZTL event into Birmingham.

All I have left now is a whole bushel basket full of Ray Smith, etc. airports and AFCADs to update from AVSIM. I'll add just one last thing - what a big difference the external frame rate limiter makes on the new system. It never really did anything noticable for me on my old rig so I never used to run it.
