How do you make a nice looking signature image that is less than 82,000 bytes.

When I made mine, I made a large version of it (to scale) and then shrank it down to the max size of 540 X 180 pixels. Saved as a .jpeg, all of mine are 36 KB (36,864 bytes)

What type of image did you save it as? It looks like you are saving it as a bitmap image, if you save it as a .jpeg the image will be small enough. Mine saved as a bitmap image is approx. 276 KB, as a .jpeg 36 KB
