Latest 4th generation of Intel CPUs called Haswell is available for purchase starting today. It requires new socket 1150 and that means new motherboard based on Z87 chipset is necessary as well.
There are more than 30 new Z87 motherboards on market. While CPU choice i5 vs i7 is not simple it's more about money: when i7 is affordable you buy it, otherwise i5. For motherboards it's totally different situation. They have a lot of small differences that make choice really hard. So my question is what motherboard you have selected for your Haswell setup and why?

It's a little early for me. I'm going to let the dust settle a bit and then decide whether an upgrade is worth it. But I hear you, I'm amazed that Newegg has so many different MB's available on day one!

The motherboard choice mainly depends on budget. I am personally a fan of ASUS and Gigabyte so I typically build with their mobos. As far as upgrading to Haswell I would say it would only be worth it if you have a pre Sandy Bridge CPU currently, otherwise I would wait for Broadwell or Skylake.

ASUS and Gigabyte work very well together. Only problem with a new processor is the cost. When I upgrade my computer I don't buy the newest technology out. The cost is just to high. For me the processor needs to be between $500-$800. Its a large budget, but when I build, I don't look at what the processor can do for me today, but rather what is could do for me 3+ years from now.

500-800 for the CPU alone? When you get into that range you really aren't seeing any performance enhancements for FS or gaming over a $200-250 CPU. Also, Haswell is only ~$25 more than Ivy so for people building today it really is the best bet.

Sandy Bridge? Yea, assuming you have an unlocked CPU I would sit tight as well.

Yup, Sandy Bridge. Not unlocked, running an i5 2400. Does what I need it to do and runs FSX really well, so for the time being I'll hang tight.

If it runs well that is all that really matters, but when you do get around to upgrading in the future I would recommend going with an unlocked processor.
Another note on Haswell; From what I've seen so far the overclocking procedure has changed to a significant extent. While it is still very similar for the UEFI portion it appears programs like Prime95 will no longer be viable for stress testing; I am still trying to figure out the best alternative.
