Hello. I recently got a PNY GTX770 (4gb of DDR5)
I had to get another Hard drive and powersupply so I had Geek Squad install them. How ever, the Tech said he was not Able to install the GPU for the Following Reason.
Quoted from the Receipt
"vid card not compatible hdd installed."
He advised on the phone but I counld not understand him well. I think he said something about BIOS. Any idea what this means. the GS agent advised me to check the GPU's Manufacture for Drivers that should help. im doing that as soon as I post this. Any info from you PC wizards would help.

Is the HDD that GS installed in the way or something?? ...is this a small case?? Only thing I can think of. Doesn't matter what type of HDD you have.
Is this a new motherboard too? ...I've built many computers from scratch so i may be able to help.

This is making more sense now. The comments left by GS are telling you the video card you bought is incompatible but he was able to install the hard drive.
Did you research this video card before buying it? ...to see if it would work in your computer? It's ok if you didn't. Many people believe they can just go out and buy an awesome card and simply install it with no trouble, however, that is not the case.

im to tiered to screw with any of this tonight so ill sleep on it an try agine tomorrow.

The most likely problem is that the 700 series of GPUs require a BIOS update on older motherboards. Check on HPs website for info on how to update your BIOS on your system (OEMs can have some wierd procedures) and do that before you install the GPU. Assuming they have an appropriate update there should be no issues.

the Culprit has been found. The Motherboard.
deep down I was worried it would be a issue, but I went ahead and bought the card hoping. that's the thing with OEM computers, this is a old Motherboard, and they haven't bothered to keep the BIOS up to-date. so im going to research some motherboard and cases to find one that works with the Components I have. hopefully I can get one within a reasonable amount of time. looks like im building a PC now.
The Techs at PNY (the manufacture of my new GPU) said they will look for a fix that might get the card working. but im going to still look for new MB's. I can rest in the fact that the Tech guy said its really a crapshoot with thire new cards on OEM boards. some people have gotten the 780 to work on this motherboard but Im not holding my breath.
im just going to Void the warranty on this HP computer. ^_^
Battlefield 4, Planet Side 2, and the eventual release of Watchdogs will just have to wait I guess.
Oh and P3D.

What kind of budget do you have and which parts are you planning on reusing? I can help you get a list together for your upgrade.

Well I want to keep it to minimal cost. im willing to sink no more than a additional $500 into it. A friend recommended me a good gaming case for less than $100 witch gives me more wiggle room on the MB. The less money spent the better but I really don't want crap ither. im also trying to get these part when thire on sale if there is such a thing. it is the holidays so I may get lucky.
I should have wrote down the complete list of everything installed before I closed up this computer. But I want to try an salvage everything I can.
the Power supply is brand new
I also just installed a 2TB Hard drive in addition to the 1TB the computer came with. preferably I would like to keep both.
DVD drive dephinitly. but has thire Tech really changed much in 3 years? that should not be to much of a issue.
I have 8GB of RAM on this motherboard GDDR3. I may have to upgrade it thoue.
my main question rest in software. if I theoretically transferred the Hardware onto a new MB. would I take it find with little to no headache? Windows and everything in installed on the 1st HD (the 1tb one) I have nothing on the 2tb HDD.

Something like this would be a good upgrade path. Everything you listed should be able to be reused with no problems. The only thing is that OEM copies of Windows are tied to the motherboard so when you change the motherboard you would also have to get a new copy of Windows. I've never done it before but I would assume that all you would need to do is enter the new key and then everything should function just as it did in the old system.

Okay thanks for the list.
Iv compiled a list of parts ill order. it ends up going over how much I wanted to spend. I can knock the price down by ditching that after market CPU cooler you recommended. I don't plan on doing any over clocking and the case im looking at has 3 fans built in so I dbout there will be any air flow issues.
I think what im going to do, is just order the additional parts, put them in the case. take out the HDD and PS I had Geek Squad install. and put them in a brand new machine. I can then still use this PC for general computing, video editing and uploading, and managing the home network. Also the one I share this house with can use it to (no ones touching my custom built gamming PC. Im chaining it to the wall). I think that's the best option because a lot of stuff is saved on this PC already.
Split it up into multiple orders and put it on Layaway. I could have it done by my birthday in march. Throw in that with the parts I have now, and what iv picked out this rig will be ready for P3D Watch dogs GTA5 and any other games that come out next year. im having a Tech friend look over the list for a 2nd opinion and see if there's any compatibility stuff ive missed.
