Im running windows 7 home premium with FS9 and its workin good for me, alongside FSX. Im not sure if FS9 has some sort of different sound card requirements or not.

No, should I? I was using 2004 until my computer crashed. Bought new one and installed FSX. When I tried to reinstall 2004 I got the error message about the sound would not work.

Always run FS (And ACARS) as ADMIN.

When installing programs and/or running them I almost always run as ADMIN. You can make it so it automatically does so. Right click on the short cut, select properties, then check the box at the bottom that says 'Run as Admin'.

I'm unsure as to where this "Run as Admin" placebo is coming from. Unless you've installed FS under C:\Program Files - you don't need it. If there's an error about the sound card we need to be starting at the specific error message.
Cheers!

The default location for FS to install is C:\Program Files ...and it seems most people install FS that way. We get a lot of these questions and much of the time running as ADMIN cures the problem.

FS9 and FSX work BEST in Win7 when you install them in their own directories - ie C:\FS9 ; C:\FSX. Don't install them in the default, Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Games. You will have a TON of issues.
