Hi all, I hope everyone out there doesn't mind giving a bit more advice about possible upgrades. I know there are a lot of posts out there with people asking and we all appreciate the help
I may not need to upgrade much, but it's been about a year and a half and I was just wondering what if anything I need to upgrade. Budget wise, I have set enough money aside to take care of whatever I need to, but I would like to balance getting what I need with having a system that will be good for a few years. I currently have...
i5 3570k oc'd to 4.5ghz
Cooler master 212 evo
Evga gtx660 2gb
Seasonic 650w gold
8gb ddr3 1600 RAM
Those would be the main components. I plan on upgrading my case, and getting two ssd drives to replace what I got. Also I would like to maybe upgrade to seasonic 1000w gold and possibly upgrade to water cooling. Any advice or opinions are appreciated. Thanks everyone!

As far as FSX goes that is about as good as it gets. If you are a gamer it may be worth it to grab a new GPU; either a 760 or a 770. The SSD would be a good upgrade, but you don't need a 1000w PSU (your current one is already more than enough) and assuming your temps are good with the 212 there isn't any reason to upgrade to watercooling other than aesthetics. If the reason you were going to get water cooling was to push the OC higher keep in mind that you would most likely be overvolting the CPU which could significantly reduce the life of the CPU.
The next time you should really consider a major upgrade is when Skylake comes out in 2015; other than the obvious CPU performance jump Skylake will be on the first mainstream chipset that can utilize DDR4.

Hey Robbie, thanks for responding. Read some of your other responses across the forum and knew you would be able to help me. The computer I built is solely used for fsx, and given that do you still think I need to upgrade the gpu? My temps seem to be fine. I was tracking the other day a flight in fsx with several other programs running (fsx related) and none of the temps were over 70c. Only thing about what you said that surprised me was that I didn't need more wattage. Seemed most I have read says for what I'm doing I need at least 800. Once I decide which hardware to replace, I am going to do fresh install of windows 7 and fsx. Thanks again for your input!

Robbie, would your advice still be the same if the computer was going to be used solely for prepar3d?

For FSX or Prepar3d you won't need any GPU upgrades. With temps staying under 70 there isn't any real reason to upgrade that cooler, but as I said before if aesthetics are important to you a decent watercooler does look much better. You are just fine with that PSU; people tend to overestimate what they actually need and in reality that system probably won't be pulling more than ~450w under full load so you have plenty of wiggle room. As far as Prepar3d goes you still wouldn't need to make any changes but it would better utilize your current hardware so you could expect a performance increase from it.

I appreciate the input. I'm glad I don't need to upgrade yet but I wanted to make sure. If I'm gonna be tinkering with the insides of the computer for the ssd and new case, I may go ahead and just get a the cooler master h100 or something like that. When I built this a year ago it was my first one and I've had to make a couple upgrades so I wanted to just to see what else I needed. Thanks!!

One note about he H100 (or any of Corsairs closed loops) I always have issues with the stock thermal compound not sticking properly leading to high temps. Save yourself the trouble and go ahead and wipe off the stock compound and apply some yourself (I personally use Arctic Silver in all of my builds) using the 'grain of rice' method. It will save you some time in the long run.

Absolutely. I'm using arctic silver 5 high density now on the computer I built. Pretty much unanimous not to trust stock compounds from what I have seen. Haha.
