Guys, I posted this thread on the PMDG forum, but Im also adding it here to see if anyone has any suggestions...

I was doing a flight when suddenly FSX CTD. So I restarted the sim (as I usually do when having CTDs), but this time, PMDG started to freeze once the flight was recovered (using NGX). I again restarted the sim, and this time, everything related to a PMDG product made the sim freeze.

I tried deleting the cfg file to create a new one, but again when selecting either the 777, 747 or 737, FS just freezes, I cant even shut it down, I have to open task manager and stop the program.

So I tried uninstalling first the 777X and trying to fly the NGX....Same issue.

I uninstalled NGX, and tried it with the 747....same issue.

I unistalled the 747. Tried it with LVLD or any default aircraft, and the sim works fine.

I then reinstalled the 777 from scratch, but again, FSX freezes...

Any thoughts? this is being very frustrating..

I Think im gonna have to reinstall FSX... Nothing seems to be working, and FS is behaving awkward. No in the Top Down view near Washington, scenery to the left is corrupt, it appears as if it had been drawn and filled by paint.... frown

Sorry to hear of your troubles. This isn't going to help much but PMDG doesn't freeze. It's FSX that freezes. It happens to me too but not often enough such that I can't fly from point A to point B - it's much more random and I know I can help the situation by rebooting between every few flights.

A few suggestions I would have had are
1) ensure your PMDG aircraft have the service packs installed
2) ensure FSX has the 2 service packs installed or you're running the Gold edition (let me know if you can't find the SPs, I have them on my web server)
3) rename your fsx.cfg file

The suggestions above - well those ships have sailed at this point and I think your approach to rebuild is fool proof. While you're at it - rebuild your operating system as well to make sure you're truely starting from a clean slate and you are rid of any lingering bad DNA.

I tried renaming the fsx.cfg,. all packs are installed and Im running FSX SP2.

Im uninstalling everything as I write....

I will, though, this time, install FSX directly into C:FSX/ rather than C:PROGRAM FILES/....

FS has a nasty way of stressing out us long haul pilots, how hard can it be for a PC to simply allow us to complete an 8 hour flight, later on today I will attempt KLM621 EHAM to KATL, we go lengths to plan the flight and conduct them realistically only for FS to rear its head at some point and say "gotcha!"

I think I have too much stuff. I'll get up in the air, but after only a few minutes FSX crashes. I'm running FSX with the Acceleration Pack (which means I have SP1 and SP2). My next steps are to uninstall all the in-flight add-ons. If that doesn't clear things up, then it's back to a clean install of FSX/Acceleration.

I'm still having this problem. I cant seem to get any of my PMDG aircraft to not freeze. I have literally started from scratch. New copy windows 7, fresh copy of FSX, Fresh copy of ACARS, PMDG Aircraft etc. Cant go more than one flight and it crashes. I'm at a loss. I don't know what more I can do. I dont know how to rename the FSX.cfg file, nor rename it to. any help would be great.

Try disabling Automatic Flight Saving, that is the one main cause for the PMDG aircraft to freeze. Downside is that for whatever reason the flight sim and or ACARS crashes. you have to start your flights all over again.

Perhaps.... do you set FSX.exe the compatability to Xp SP3 or W7 ?
