So I was wondering what is the fastest way to get up in the stages, because at each step I take there are a many other steps I could take, but not necessarily getting me higher up in the stages. Right now I am in the 757 program, and am rated to fly in the following groups and whatever other aircraft come with them: 737, A320, 757, MD-88. I ultimately want to be able to do some long hauls, but dont know which is the most efficient route to get there. I have talked to some who did it in under 200 hrs, others who took a lot longer.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

After your promotion to 757 Capt. you can take the 767 FO Test. or any long haul AC. There's no set path. I went from CRJ-737-757-767-747-777

We do promotions by legs, not hours. I would look at your Promotion Eligibility in the pilot center to see each of the stages and what aircraft are in each stage. You have to go through each to get to the next.

The 10 legs it takes to become a Captain you can easily accomplish in 10 hours or less for each stage.
You can fly long hauls in the 757 and even longer hauls in the 767 which is the next stage for you. 777 or 747 is after the 767 if you're staying on the Boeing route.
My 20 month path has been CRJ-737-767-777. I've greatly enjoyed each step of the way.

So sounds like there is no real way, but the way I am going seems to be what most of you have done. Sounds good to me! Thanks!

Joe,
While I'm still hanging out in the 737 program, I've thought about the most efficient way to move up if I chose to do that.

For any stage, there seem to be a few steps. You have to qualify as Captain in your current stage. For the jets, I believe that means 10 non-accelerated legs of at least 150nm. If you consider that, you're really talking about an hour of flight time per leg, or 10 hours of actual real time.

To upgrade you have to take the FO test, pass a checkride, then transfer to that program, then do 10 more legs to move up to Captain...at which point you're eligible to move up a stage.

I just saw this is an 8 Dec post and you're already a 757 Captain. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know!
