Hi everyone, i recently built and upgraded my computer. i am using an i5 3570k and corsair h100 water cooler on an asus board. on my previous build with the same chip and a cooler master hyper212 on a gigabyte board, i was able to overclock it to 4.5ghz at a vcore of 1.25 with prime95 temps around 80c. now when attempting to overclock to 4.3 with vcore at 1.21, my prime95 temps are 94c after only a minute. do i need to reseat the watercooler, adjust fan speed, etc? any help here is appreciated.

Unless you've been fooling around with the water cooler mount on the CPU (you shouldn't be), there should be no reason to reseat. If you do have to reseat, you're going to need a bit of thermal paste - about a grain of rice or slightly larger.
Short of the above, you need a better cooler, more fan (noise), or you need to back down your overclock, or you need to live with those temps but I don't like them and I wouldn't expect them to be stable or your CPU life will be shortened. I'd start by cranking the CPU fan speed up on the Corsair water cooler to its maximum setting then test. It's going to be loud but it will give you a sense for what the max cooling capability will be for your overclocking with the Corsair h100

The H100 should be giving you better results than that. If you've used too much Thermal Paste it can also become an issue as well as too little. Just googled a review of the cooler and on an i7 3770k OC'd to 4.5 they were getting temps of 60C in quiet mode... Down into the 50s when set to performance... It could well be that its not seated right

As a comparison I reinstalled the hyper 212. It's also running at 90c for prime95 full load test.

What method are you using to apply the thermal compound? I use the 'grain of rice' method where you apply a small amount to the center of the CPU and just mount the heatsink/waterblock normally on top of it (make sure to tighten gradually on opposite corners). What are you using to remove the old thermal compound? I personally use ArtiClean but a high concentration isopropyl alcohol would also work in a pinch. Either way make sure you get all of the old compound off both the CPU and the heatsink before reapplying and reseating.

Finally running 4.3ghz at 1.23v. Prime95 at 80c or less. Is there a difference that I will see between 4.3 and 4.5? Should I try for more? This chip as stated above was at 4.5 but I can't seem to get that now
