Reinstalled FSX today, spent the whole day - literally took 6 hours to uninstal everything, defragement, restart, reinstall....ugggh anyway I am now in the process of reinstalling all my addons - which there are 75 not including addon Liveries...so its gonna be a little bit...NOW Thankfully I have a snowday tomorrow so I will have time!

Have fun. I've done this several times. A good clean install does wonders sometimes!

Now the only issue is that I am scared to reinstall any ORBX product because I really dont wanna go through this again.....On the other hand I love ORBX and would hate to fly without their scenery.

I was considering doing the same thing, but for the reasons you pointed out I haven't yet!! LOL But the reason I want to is because when I installed this one, I forgot to put it in its own directory, I installed to the default location. IF I reinstalled FSX to its own directory, would that be worthwhile or a waste of my day? I have i7, 3770K, GTX 670 and 8 mb ram so the system isn't an issue.

Hi All,
Having my FSX version for few years, I had to un-install due to few "unfamiliar" sim issues which made me take that decision and offload it from my main PC. After cleaning the remaining debries and leftovers, which lasted few days, I came to a new reasonable
decision that I want to reinstall FSX, despite and on top that I still enjoy my old-trustfuil FS9 with all its addons....
Then I started to face a new reality when after puting DVD1 in the drive and started spining, I got a notice that "Installation cannot be completed due to error 1628"....
This is the current situation for the last 2-3 weeks by now, and even the good boys at the local branch of MS support this end cannot give me a solution. Does anyone of you ever faced such a case?

Re installing FSX is never fun & a job best left alone if you can avoid it. There are though a few steps you can take to make sure you get a good fresh install.
1) Uninstall FSX & then manually delete all the files left behind (there will be a fair amount).
2) Defrag your drive. Don't use the one that came with windows, its trash & takes forever. Unfortunately I am on my iPad at the moment & cant tell you the one I use.
3) This is the most important step. Strip naked & sacrifice a chicken to the FS Gods then prostrate yourself before them.
4) There is never a 4.
5) Reinstall FSX & Acceleration then defrag again.
6) Begin to add your add ons. For any biggies (UT, Orbix etc) I will defrag after installing.
7) Finally you have to make sure you hold your tongue right through all of this.
Good luck!

I usually try to do a clean install of both Windows and fsx(same time) once a year or so, just because of all the random stuff I download and use once then forget about it and all of a sudden your system is just running super slow

Bob,
Thanks for making me look at the "bright" side of FSX....
Not that I desperately looking for a magical solution to be able to re-install, and after having tolerating its "moods" for quite some time, I can only
Appreciate MS for inventing FS9 to be THE simming platform for all of us till that day. I cannot say same for FSX....and now it shows by not letting
me re-install a legit MS software on a MS-operated PC (WIN7-64 Ultimate etc). Trust me, luck has nothing to do with FSX.......
Thanks for sharing.
