I've seen some videos of people using their iPad as the FMC for the touch screen and ease. Does anybody use this and can recommend a good app/program to use?

There is an app that allows you to use your iPad as an additional monitor to your PC. I think it is called Air Display. Then you open your FMC in a separate window, undock the window from FSX, and move it over to your iPad screen. There is a similar program for Android devices called iDisplay that will allow you to do the same thing with an android tablet.
There may be other ways to do it, but these are the two that come to mind.

I have a tablet as my FMC touchscreen actually
you can have an inexpensive touchscreen FMC WITH NO CABLES! There is a program called Air Display for the Android, IOS program.
it allows you to connect your iphone, ipad, or android tablet smart phone, to your pc via WIFI as an extension of your desktop all using WIFI and no cables!
It has 2 modes, one to make an extension of your desktop or mirror mode to work as a touchscreen main display. The program costs under 10$ and is so worth it.
I use my Teclast a10 dual core tablet that has the ipad 2 9.7 ips screen. I purchased it from amazon back around christmas of 2012 for 199$ shipped .
Both your Home PC and Your Tablet or Phone must be connected on the same WIFI network. You can also use USB.. Simply launch the Air display app on your device and then launch the air display program on your pc and select your device to connect and thats it !
I use the Captain sim 757 which has a FMC but its important to know that Dragging any window off the main window will go black unless you select " UNDOCK" window.
Simply undock which ever window possibly an EFIS or FMC and resize it to fit your TABLET or device. and thats it You now have a touch screen FMC without having to dish out hundreds of dollars.
The undocked window in WINDOWS may have a bright border. I have a customer color profile that creates black borders so there is no outline.
make sure you save your flight with your windows where you want them and As long as you connect your Device using Air Display before you launch Flight Simulator, your FMC will be right there
waiting for you cold and dark .
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
You can visit the google play store for the app, or apple store for ipad iphone,
and get your Home PC software here http://avatron.com/apps/air-display
I have a Video using my FMC on my tablet to show you how it works

As I said, the Galaxy Tab loaded fine. It's the Windows part that is not completing the installation. I downloaded the latest version for the Android and for Windows. If I can't get the Windows software to even finish loading, however, it's all moot.

Im talking about the windows version. For your pc not the tablet.
The only software available from airdisplay is v 2.0. When I tried to use it with my tablet it wouldnt read. Says not for android yet.
I have to use v1.8 I got months ago.
The problem your having It could be you got a currupt installer
You could download it again and see if that helps.
If you do get 2.0 working with your android device let me know. I havent checked out compatibiliy since.

I have a service ticket in with Avatron.com. We'll see what happens. They DO seem to have a sense of humor, though. Here's the auto-reply I received when I sent in the ticket:
Hi Larry,
Thank you contacting Avatron Support.
This is our robot email responder, letting you know you're in our queue for a non-robotic reply.
Your ticket number is #xxxxxx.
As you can see from this email, robots reply instantly. So efficient!
The humans will take somewhere around a full business day to reply. That is forever to us robots.
On the other hand, the human reply you receive will be insightful, helpful, and tailored to your initial request.
So they've got that going for them.
My robotic analysis shows that other visitors have enjoyed visiting the following Web pages:
Air Display Help – http://www.avatron.com/support/faq-air-display/
Avatron app FAQs – http://www.avatron.com/support/
What is Everydisk? – http://www.avatron.com/apps/everydisk/

Well, got the Air Display Windows client working with the Galaxy Tab but ran into another issue: FSX does not like the Air Display "graphics card" (Air Display sets up a display adapter alongside your actual graphics card in Device manager). When I try to start FSX with Air Display active and connected to the tablet, FSX aborts with an error about the graphics adapter not meeting the shader support required. I am using DirectX 10, so I'm sure this is what is causing the issue. In the battle between DX10 and Air Display, I'm going with DX10. I've put in another ticket with Avatron requesting that they somehow spoof FSX into thinking the Air Display graphics adapter is shader compatible in a future update.

I set this up on my iPAD mini today. I too saw the grapics incompatibility message styarting FSX. The trick is to start FSX first then start the AirDisply host and connect to you device. I used it on a flight from KATL to KLAS today in the PMDG T7. I used the touch screen iPAD for all the FMC interations and it worked like a champ. The mouse can be used to interact with the window being displayed on the device for entering data, moving and resizing the window. I especially loved the ability to keep track of the progress when i was away from my PC.
You do need to components though. The first you can get from the AppStore or Android store. The other is the PC host found here
https://www.avatron.com/get-air-display/
Once installed (and you have restarted you PC), simply drag the undocked window off the right side of your display(s) and it will move to the connected device.
To me, the $10 cost is well worth the added realisim and capabilities it brings.

indeed rob indeed. what i do in FS9 is connect my tablet first via air display,. then using win aero pick a black out theme to delete the borders. then start fs9 load a saved flight with my fmc starts right on my tablet every flight.
For fsx it says on the air display site to start fsx first then connect air display.

I did get Air Display to work with FSX using the method described by Rob above, but it doesn't work with nVidia's Surround capability. Once you activate Air Display and connect to the tablet, you lose the 3-wide Surround display and get a single display on the left monitor.
For some reason I had expected to use the tablet like a regular CDU - touching the buttons I wanted to activate. Air Display doesn't work like that. You still have to use the mouse cursor to operate the buttons. Scrolling across three screens to operate the keyboard is a bit of a pain and the bit of lag between moving the mouse and seeing the cursor move on the Air Display is inefficient. I guess I'll stick with the on-screen CDU until Virtual CDU comes out with support for the 757.

HAve not had a lot of luck with this. First I go to the Itunes store and purchase the APP, then i go to the site to download the client prg. But instead I get a gateway 501, so I later try again, luck or so I thought, I get the site and I download the prg only to find it will not install. So for me not having a whole lot of luck.

There's a setting like that? And it's turned OFF by default?!?

Only thing there that talks about touch is the "Presentation Mode" checkbox and it says that Presentation Mode disables keyboard and touch input on the screen. This checkbox is turned off by default.

Sean, I was able to download a workable EXE file last night. Loaded with no issues, was able to get it to talk to my Ipad. That is as far as I could get. I was not able to drag my FMC onto the screen of my Ipad. I tried everything to include watching a vid on installing and setting up. I did notice one thing on the vid it showed that if you right clicked on the system tray icon it would give you a setup screen, NO Luck! I have not gave up on it just frustrated. I have the 2.0 screen like you have above in the blue border. Any I ideas I am all in!

thats easy my friend.
first youll have to run windowed mode,.
second you have to UNDOCK your FMS window and drag it onto your IPAD,
before you do that right click on your desktop, click screen resolution, and make sure you ipad is to the left or right of your main displays. makes it easier to drag and move back
yours works because you have an IPAD that v2.0 is supported for, us android users not so much, why i am using 1.8.10 still..

I could use the Android as a CDU while running 2.0.3, I just had to use the mouse cursor to click on the buttons.

It's not high on my priority list right now seeing as running Air Display drops me down to a single monitor for FSX. Given the choice of a virtual CDU or a three-wide monitor setup, the virtual CDU is going to have to be put on the back burner.

Not sure. I loaded up the Android client, then ran the Windows portion and told it to "connect to other" using the IP address displayed on the Android client. After a few flickers on all the screens, I was looking at another desktop on my Android and sliding the mouse over to the right would bring it up on the Android.

Larry i have an idea. When fsx drops you to a single display, why dont you minimize FSX right click on desktop and click screen resolution and put your tablet along side your display, put it right along side your display, try disable and re enabling the display as well . wondering what your nvidia is doing to your display. no problems with ATI and FS9 running eyefinity. another help issue with avatron may be in order for you both.

Sean when I got home I got it to work like a charm, once I went into the monitor screens and setup I was able to slide the FMC like butter into the Ipad screen. Did learn that you have to load FSX first or it wont load. Thanks again!

Hey Sean!
Thanks for this wonderful gem! I have gotten it setup and my displays worked out but for some reason I cannot get the input to work correctly. What keeps happening is I go to input from my ipad and nothing works, I can only use my mouse to input. I have version 2 and I was wondering if you or anybody else has any experience with how to get it to work.
Thanks!

Make sure you guys have the FMC in Windowed Mode. That way you can manage with Touch.

Yea the FMC is in windowed/Docked mode. What should the settings be. The ones that are displayed when you click the gear on the bottom right. Thanks for your replies!

its windowed fsx mode,. and UNDOCKED? ?? not DOCKED. so its in a seperate window. outside of FSX you need that to work.
