I am having trouble with a freezing computer while running FSX. Admittedly the computer has FSX Acceleration, ASN weather, FSINN, VATSPY, Yoke, Peddles, two instrument consoles and several Web pages all running to support the flight. I am running a Windows 7 but also have an older computer that is in good shape running Windows XP on a wired network. If I were to link the two to share some of the load what do you recommend as a first step in the linkage and transfer of applications to a stared status. Thanks for the help.

I have networked my computers in the past, the last time I did a network I had my weather, dvacars, vatspy, running on the second system, that left EFB and FSX to run on the primary. But maybe an upgrade may be order! Up until yesterday I was running an I5-2500 on ASUS P67- 16 gig ram, mobo with a dedicated drive just for FSX. That system could run weather, dvacars, fsx or p3d, several add on to fsx, and all the accessories and still hold 35 fps. Now I am upgrading, but I would highly recommend the network.

I network every flight. What do you wanna know? I personally run all my addons on a laptop while FS only on my PC. I have Active sky, Radar contact (squawkbox for online) on a networked PC set. along with acars and the net and such. Its kinda like having a flight bag really lol. Get a separate rig and WideFS (assuming you have FSUIPC)

Chris - I tried to distributively set up ActiveSky Next (ASN) on the WindowsXP to support my FSX program on the Windows7 machine using the ASN networking instructions. BAD IDEA OSBURN! I slugged my way through the simconnect/SDP set up, and as you probably know, for a barely computer literate guy - that is a major undertaking. I screwed up FSX and had to re-install it and by the end I had effectively destroyed 3/4 available brain cells as well!!!
You mentioned WideFS and FSUIPC. Is configuring and using those applications relatively more simple than the drill I went through trying to modify FSX to accept ASN across the network as discussed in the ASN networking chapter? Frankly after several days of frustration ending in an FSX re-install I am hesitant take this on again until I have recovered from some of the self inflicted pain.
I did read that WideFS is a painless way to accomplish the distributive linking of ASN and other supporting FSX applications which seems to confirm your comment above as well. I was wondering if going that route (WideFS) is relatively more simple than the ASN networking instructions? Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm not sure with ASN since I'm using ASE but I will say it is very easy. You basically set up a workgroup with both PC's and allow them permission to access each others info. For example, my ACARS can access my FS9 flight plan folder so I can load my FS flight plans into ACARS. I also can make changes to say a panel file thru my laptop while in FS and the reload the AC without exiting or clicking thru opened windows. As far as say Active Sky, It connects thru the platform and loads the weather. I basically tell AS with this method that FS is on a network Drive.
ie..I tell ASE that the root files for FS9 are on a shared "Z" drive. "Z" being my C -drive on my main FS PC. AS then creates the weather generation file for FS and places it in the appropriate folder. It sound complex but its really not. The WideFS instructions are really all you have to follow. Its worth every penny and really helps free up your main PC's resources. I could probably do away with this laptop but I'm so used to it and love it I wont!
