Recently had to upgrade to windows 7 as XP is being phased out, and although squawkbox installed ok after 10 mins or couple of hours fs crashes. Tried fsinn it has installed ok but can't change server to one that works. It remains on an old server number. So I can't connect to vatsim. IVAO works fine. But obviously need to fly with vatsim especially for group flights.
I've got everything running as administrator. High spec computer and has worked fine with XP.
Can't figure out what I'm missing but obviously am missing something. Appreciate feedback.

I have found that both Win7 and Win8 have permission issues with FSX and its supporting programs files. I installed my programs (run as an administrator) not in the C:\Program Files directory which is the default but in a directory that I created - C:\jim. I then make sure to disable all antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, and any other programs not needed such as Skype, web camera, printer control panel, Dropbox, etc. Then fly FSX making sure that all of your programs execute as an administrator (this is needed as these programs need to update files during your flight and need the correct permissions). So far, this procedure has worked for my FSX running on WIN8.1. Hope it works for you.

Thanks guys for the input. The link to the load server also had a video so thanks Jim. Retried reinstalling fsinn after watching video. When I clicked on VATSIM button to connect expected it to just go red as it has been doing a dozen times but guess what it worked.....! Happy days, thanks.

Install and run VatSpy. (Is there anyone that flies online that doesn't use it or something similar? LOL)
Click on the Network Servers tab. It will give you all of the current server IP addresses.

Oh yeah, I just saw Jim Rose's post. I remember that fix from a previous install. That fix worked for me.

I didn`t understand, have you able to work with FSInn or not?

Have you chosen the right server for it?

FSInn is all I've ever used.
You don't have to use the drop-down box in FSInn. You can manually type in the IP address. Select the server that is nearest to your location.
I'm in California so I use West USA primarily, if it is having issues, I'll use USA North Vancouver
