I'm a new FO in EMB-120 program. I tried to do my first ACARS flight today, but ACARS didn't track the flight and went offline at some point. I'm obviously making a procedural error somewhere.
I connect to ACARS, enter flight data;
Switch to FS04 and load my AC/flight;
Switch to ACARS, "Start Flight" > Msg: Start FS and load your aircraft."
Well, I did that - all that is left for FS to do is "Fly Now!"
Once FS04 starts my fkight, I can't minimize/close screen and return to ACARS to "Start Flight."
So - somebody - tell me where I am going astray and straighten me out!
Thanks!

I've configured ACARS to fly offline. I've got FS9 set up first, I then Alt-Tab to windows, start up ACARS, enter data. When it asks for fuel etc I enter No, because FSCaptain takes care of that. After pushing 'start flight' I Alt-Tab back into FS9 and start up the aircraft.

I think that you also want to uncheck the box in the General Options for "Pause on application switch" or something like that. This lets you Alt-Tab between programs and not pause FS2004 while you are in ACARS. Also, you probably shouldn't start your ACARS flight until you have the plane on the airport at the gate with the parking brake set and the fuel loaded. Any change to your fuel after you start triggers a flag in ACARS and you risk getting your flight rejected because passenger jets generally don't have in flight refueling capability. I believe that this information is also in the ACARS manual along with all the other great features of ACARS that make your flying easier like looking up a flight, choosing a saved flight assignment to fly, displaying charts for the airports, setting your radios for the ILS landing frequencies and headings, displaying your flight progress, private chatting with other DVA pilots, etc.
Have fun flying!
