I believe that you will get a new version of FSUIPC when you install ACARS for FSX. With respect to Windows 8.1, I wouldn't let FSX install in it's default folder because C:/Program Files and C:/Program Files (X86) require different permissions to write files in these folders. Make a folder off the main C:/ for your games and FSX (C:/Brandon ) and install all of your games and FSX in here. Also, for Windows 8.1, I would run FSX in "Vista compatibility mode" (right click the FSX icon on the desktop and pick the compatibility tab). You can also run FSX as an administrator to give it the permissions to modify your fsx.cfg file and other files it needs to fly.
Also, search the water cooler for Windows 8.1 discussions. I have seen a few that offer good suggestions on your install of FSX in Win8.1.
