Hey folks, I am trying to kill 2 birds in one stone with this post, first off, I am gonna buy one of these three computers for my Step-dads house so I can fly when I go over there, and also the small firm I work for is upgrading their computers and will also be getting 4 of one of these computers...So, If yall could...could you look over these rigs and lemme know which one looks the best to you?
Thanks! (I had posted this in the AutoDesk forum, so I just copied and pasted it here, if it sounds a bit wierd)
The firm I work for has been in the process of reviewing over our equipment that we bought and installed back in 2007, and we are thinking very strongly of upgrading AutoCAD (2007) to the latest versions of AutoCAD, and possibly also getting Revit. In the process of doing this we are going to upgrade our computers, which are currently Dell Precision Desktop computers bought in 2007 and Dell desktops bought in 2002. I have been tasked with the job of finding suitable workstations to replace the ones we have, and have customized the following builds on CyberPowerPC, with whom I have experience with and have come to respect and love as a company, and the products they deliver. Anyway, I just wanted to post the specs of the builds and see what y'all say about the Core Components, and if you think they will be suitable for AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, Sketchup and possibly Rhino3D in the future. We do not do a TON of 3d modelling right now because of the limitations of the computers we have, which do not work well at all with Sketchup or any other 3D modelling programs including AutoCAD. However, with these new systems we hope to expand our 3D modelling, and other capabilities that AutoCAD and the related programs have greately.
Let me know what y'all think, I am open to suggestions. We are trying to spend under then $2,000.00 USD on each rig. We need 4 of them. Monitors, Keyboards, Mouses and other Peripherals are not necessary since the ones we have are perfectly fine.
I have provided links to the files which are on my dropbox. There are 3 builds.

They're all awesome Sean. Its like asking me to compare diamond rings though. Scott Clarke just bought a new rig for 70% of your budget that's pretty impressive.

Lol I think you meant to say Joe not Sean, but anyway, since the computer I would get for my stepdads house would be for my job too the firm would pay for it, in which case I'll take whichever one they decide to get. I would be interested in seeing Scott's rig though

Hey Joe.
I will post my specs and try to compare to your options.
Motherboard is about your personal preferences, usually ASUS things are fine
I went with 4390K instead of 4790K (Hexacore vs Quadcore): It may be a bit more expensive (or not), but it's like having V6 spinning at lower rpm than a 4-stroke engine at higher rpm with the same result in a car.
I went with Geforce 780 GTX 4GB: I'm not sure about AutoCad, but video editing software are utilizing video memory and CUDA technology nowadays. (I try to stay clear of "Pro GFX line", since I use this PC for other tasks too).
Power Supply (this one is important): I have 750 Watts right now. 500 Watts is a bit short for modern system in my opinion. It is also recommended to have at least 20% of power capacity in reserve.
HDD: 2 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda: In my opinion it's the best possible price/quality HDD on market (well at least it was half a year ago). The amount of storage you need is up to you of course.
SSD: 240 GB Intel 520 Series: SSDs are awesome. Period. I keep system files on it only. The boot times are lightning fast etc. You would want one in a modern PC.
Multimedia: I use on-board network and audio card. Suits my needs, since I have an external Audio card for the times I need some serious audio editing anyway.
Case: I use Corsair case, I can't really recall the model I think it's Air series too with nice and easy HDD slot system (which I like a lot).

Wow, thanks for this info! So, lemme just see
I will look at the 4390K/4790k, I dont know if they were offering both it might just have been the 4790k that was there
I will try to see if I can get the video card upgraded too.
I was thinking the same thing about the PSU, but on the build it said that it only required 320-340Watts, so I would think 500 watts is fine. But this is definately something to look into.
In terms of storage, at the office, everything is kept on a server drive, so all we really need in terms of space on the computer is to put the programs on in which case I dont think 2TB is needed. Upgrading it to SSD would be good though.
I am fine with the onboard audio, I am not interested too much in the sound.
Case wise I really like the cases that are on the build, so I think they will do fine.
Thanks so much Serge!

Hummm...I really don`t about this Joe;
I would build one myself. Probably cheaper and better. To build it is really easy. Just follow manuals.
You only choose CPU with "K", if you are going to Overclock.

Lol, well I was thinking about doing that, however, I have never done it before, and to buy warranties on each part is a TON more expensive then to get a warranty for all the parts and computer as a whole, and have it be built and tested by people who actually know what they are doing. The firm I work for chose to go with 5 of the Power Mega Pro 2000 builds, with upgrades to a 600-watt PSU and better cooler and video card (Nvidia Quadro 6000, 12GB memory). I am going to be getting the Zeus Evo Thunder 2000 with the GTX Titan, 32GB ram, and everything else on that build (essentially what my rig is at home now, just this new one will go to my step dads house)
Thank you guys so much!

Lately I've been avoiding Seagate hard drives. Seen a lot of failures.
IMHO the best spindled drives are WD Black drives. For SSDs the Samsung Pro line

Ditto for me. My FSX box has Samsung Pro SSDs. One for the OS, one for FSX, plus I have a 2TB spindled drive (WD black, NOT Seagate) as a data warehouse, install point.
I also use it to install scenery that I do not visit often.
To tell you the truth, I don't notice any lag in loading scenery from the WD drive over the SSDs.

For me SSD over HDD is not much of an issue for me, even if it is a few seconds faster, that is ok. Also, I have 4TB of space on my rig right now and I only have 560GB of free space combined, and if I were to have SSD for all that it would be thousands of dollars most likely, and its not something I need to spend the money on.

Yea that is a lot of storage you have used up there! But does not mean you should try to run at least just the OS on SSD, and bring these 4 TB drives over for storage :-) I currently use 256 gb SD for OS and FSX, and everything else is on my regular HD's.
