I went to start a flight yesterday and started FSX and it opened then immediately closed. Restarted it, same thing happened. Checked event viewer, nothing on it for FSX or anything related to it. Reinstalled FSUIPC, nothing, deleted .cfg, let it rebuild it, nothing. Restarted computer, nothing. Ran the FSX Repair utility from the disk, no help.
This seems to be a pattern, every 3-4 months FSX just stops working and I have to completely reinstall it. Any suggestions before I do this again?
Thanks!
~Joe.

Any Windows updates done recently? You might try a "System Restore" from a week or so before the problem started.

Nothing, no updates, no installs, and I was using FSX fine that morning then turned it off for a couple hours.

Well, definitely there is some addon that is not let you access the FSX. I was having this issue before and some how I got it fixed. have you clean your Registries? use CCleaner. is free.

Ran CCleaner, restarted computer, no help. I get a fatal error message about 20 sec after FSX launch window comes up.

It sounds like an add-on is causing the issue. It might be tedious but gradually taking them off one by one might be your best bet if you don't want to reinstall fsx.

It doesnt specify one, it just says "An error caused Microsoft Flight Simulator to stop working properly. It will now close"
I checked the event viewer, nothing there.

I will do that, but I have not installed anything in a couple months and it was working perfectly fine hours before it stopped working.

This is weird considering you had it running earlier that morning. Here's a stupid question, did you do any type of changes to your computer between the time you last flew and the time you got the error the first time? And by anything I mean anything, even if it was just renaming a file.

Joe go to "start" and type "Event Viewer" into the search, then go to programs and look for the "yellow Warning that precedes the "Red Error" symbol. It should give you the file that was in error.
Also if you are tired of reloading then try this site: www.macrium.com I have been using this now since April when I found out about it and won't use anything else. Once I have things the way I want I mirror copy C: and my FSX or now P3D drive. Captain Sim is the reason I use this now, found out the hard way CS 727 has an insideus way of corrupting files until you cannot find your airplanes if you try and install it on P3D. It takes me less than 1-hour to flush my P3D drive and reinstall it. The trick with macrium is to do a back up when you are sure things are right and you have not installed anything recently.

I have checked the event viewer many times before, and nothing shows up, I will look again though. I will check out the website too, thanks Ken!

Pay attention to those faulting paths. They usually mean that something has gone wrong in those files, and modules. Since you said before that you cannot repair them, unfortunately, the only way to get rid of it is to uninstall FSX and reinstall it.

Ok so I found that simprop.dll file online and downloaded just that file, and replaced it into the FSX main folder where the old and supposedly faulty file was, and now FSX says it cannot find it...its the same exact file....So looks like only way is to reinstall.

Joe, ok, so this is the file that is giving you a problem: Faulting module path: D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\simprop.dll.
When you startup your SIm, what aircraft it is set on? Make sure you have the Cessna C172 always as the one that startup your sim.
Delete the FSX.CFG again. tell me what do you have in your main FSX module folder?

Joe, it got to be the FSUIPC. Delete and install the new one: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html
Where I got it from this thread: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/74840-repeated-ctd-after-10-minutes-flying-v115-with-hot-fix/

This is what I`ve got from another thread:
Yes "off topic". No this is not a "UiAutomationCore.dll" issue. It is most certainly a "Visualfx.dll" issue.
What I have found, after e x t e n s i v e research, is that this error usually shows up after a change/addition to the "Airplanes" folder, and seems to be related to the "FSX.cfg\[USERINTERFACE]\SITUATION=" section. This is the "default flight" and I found (ALWAYS BACKUP your .CFG FILE) if you delete the line after
"SITUATION="
FSX will start up. Then, if you wish, you can go back and reset your default flight via the "Free Flight\Load\(choose your flight)\Make this the default flight" menu.

Ok I tried everything, put the UiAutomationCore.dll in their, Visualfx.dll in there, reinstalled FSUIPC, deleted the .cfg file and let it rebuild, deleted the line you said too, nothing. It opens for about 5-10sec then closes.
Ill try repairing it again, otherwise I guess I gotta reinstall it and all the 100+ addons.....

Joe; this time just remember to use Macrium to after you do a clean install - then when you have your base programs installed, back up your Root Drive and the drive you have FSX installed on. Although I would say, now may be the time to jump to P3D, you will not be able to use your PMDG but a lot of other stuff will cross over nicely. Just a thought!

Haha, I did not build this computer only for FSX, I built it more for AutoCAD, Revit and other very intensive 3D Rendering and modelling programs, as well as to run all my screens. I do not have FSX Booster.

Although I would say, now may be the time to jump to P3D, you will not be able to use your PMDG but a lot of other stuff will cross over nicely. Just a thought!
I will do that, and I own P3D and maybe will start moving things over to that but keep FSX for PMDG stuff until they move over.

Also check the FSDreamTeam software, that could cause some problems.

That could be an NVIDIA Inspector not being set up.

I think it would be better to do a complete reinstall of the computer as well, as it will give a squicky clean platform to install your FSX and P3D.

Joe.... "DO NOT (AGAIN) DO NOT INSTALL FSX BOOSTER" That`s why it is not open your FSX.
As soon as you install that crap, you can`t tweak your FSX.CFG file.
You don`t need FSX Booster. I`ll help you to tweak you FSX.CFG file without that crap.
I had it before and it was giving me the same problem.
I agree with Soonho. The best way is to format your PC and install all fresh.
I know that is pain in the neck, but you will going to have a smooth FSX with some other settings.

Better reread what he posted. He is NOT using FSX booster. Also he mentioned that he uses his computer for Auto Cad and such. To reformat and reload for an FSX issue may be overkill.

Yeah i cant re format my whole computer, way to much stuff and programs, etc...settings that I cant risk losing, and I dont have the time to do that. I will just reinstall FSX and stuff, hopefully that works.
And I am looking forward to seeing those DX10 settings, and yes I do have the DX10 fixer

Joe, ok
So make you delete all the Registry and uninstall all the components of your FSX. Make sure you do that Registry cleaner. It helps a lot.
Than install the CD of the FSX and don`t anything else.

Joe;
I finally posted my FSX DX10 tweak in this thread: http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x1da60
Hopefully, you can`t take something from and fix your FSX.
