I currently have OPUS, but from what I've read, it does not improve the appearance of weather, it only inserts accurate real-world weather into FSX, is that correct? If so, what is a weather add-on which would improve the look of the weather and give it a more realistic feel as far as graphics are concerned? I didn't know if Active Sky Next would defeat the purpose of OPUS and I should just get something like REX, or if I would need to get ASN to get what I'm looking for.
Hopefully this question isn't too confusing...lol

I just want whatever it takes to give weather the most realistic look and feel, such as microbursts, wake turbulence, as well as appearance

The best combination at this time would be REX Textures (not wx) and ASN as weather engine. Since you're in the 777 program, ASN will also enable the wx radar in the PMDG 777 :).
Hope this helps

I wouldn't get ASN just yet, get REX 4 Direct Texture to complement your Opus and see what you think. You have already spent the money on Opus which is similar to ASN.

ASN is a completely re-written system that does NOT include graphics as their previous AS 2012 did, so your question about REX is valid. You need to have REX.
IMHO having both is crucial if you want realism in your SIM.

So is the realistic vibe of those pics a result of REX?

In terms of the textures, yes, that is of REX. The best combo would be ASN weather with REX textures or OPUS weather with REX textures. I don't use Texture 4 and it still looks nearly as good.

In my situation, would REX w/ overdrive be necessary since I have OPUS?

You don`t need to get the overdrive. Get the REX4 Direct Texture and install it, than run OPUS to simulate the weather. That`s all. I also have OpusFSX in my other PC and works great as ASN.

Well, I went ahead and got the REX with overdrive because I couldn't find the regular REX anywhere. Can someone explain to me, when you go into REX and set the textures how you want, does it do a one-time injection into the FSX folder and it's there to stay? The reason I ask is that I usually open FSX through FSPS Booster. I noticed that like the FSPS Booster, REX has a "fly now" button that will open FSX through REX. So far when I go through REX, FSX has not felt as stable as when I go through FSPS.
Honestly, since getting REX, I'm not sure I notice a bit of difference, that's why I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if there is a step I'm missing. I'd appreciate anyone that could offer a few sentences that may help make sense of it all. And please, I know REX has a 3425834567883 page manual...I'm hoping for somebody that knows what I'm talking about and could save me a lot of time ;-)

Ohhh Josh, The REX Overdrive it`s somewhat outdate. The product we were talking about was this is one: http://www.pcaviator.com/store/product.php?productid=20019&cat=0&page=0&featured=Y
You already have a great weather engine that is OPUSFSX. 100 times better than overdrive weather engine.

However, as stated above, REX has not gone to waste. It should be used for your weather textures.

Yes, but in the form of Texture Direct.
