I dont know how many of you have the concorde rating but I am almost captain in the 777 so today I downloaded the concorde just to see what the cockpit and stuff looked like.. I noticed that there was no GPS however... How do the rest of you with the concorde rating navigate? Do you tune in each intersection/VOR to the NAV1 or how do you do it?

RW Concorde was flown with a navigation system called INS Display, (Inertia Navigational System , http://flyjsim.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/214-civa-inertial-navigation-system-in-the-727/ for more information), which you can find it even in most up date aircraft, just in different form. VOR is also used for navigation as well, since INS was only able to hold about 9 (or 10) position a the time, and pilots actually had to fly the arrivals/dep with the VOR. And if I remember correctly, VOR is also used to realign the INS after some time have passed. I believe all of the payware Concorde has the INS Display, and some has option to use GPS database for us that is just too lazy to learn how to use INS For fs9, I use PSS Concorde Payware, you can use the GPS, which makes life so much easier

Okay! So the only way I could bypass learning all this stuff that is no longer used in current aircraft, I would have to buy a payware concorde with GPS for FSX?

As far as I know.. there is no payware COncorde that works with GPS...
I may be wrong, but there is only one payware in the FSX, FSLAB, and they are system intense... and extremely expensive too....

I think one of the selling points of FSLabs and well as SSTSIM was that they used the CIVA INS.
Nicholas, if it helps, just think of INS where the waypoints are spelled out in lat/longs instead of words. It just basically takes a little more typing than with your standard flight plan. The advantage is the type of flights you will be doing in a Concorde does not use that many waypoints in the flight plans. Hope this helps.

Okay! That makes some sense! I will just have to find out how to put a FP together including a SID and STAR and then find out how to get my plane to track it. That is really the only thing Im having trouble with..Cause idk what most of you do, but with the newer planes, I just compile a flight plan, fly the plane on departure and arrival, and put it on the GPS the whole rest of the time.

I avail myself of INS to go and have short breaks, but it really does require a certain level of monitoring. One thing that the CEVA INS, as well as a few other systems, is that you must manually update the INS using DME updates along the route (programming in DME stations so the INS can update it's position and you will not drift off course). Most modern aircraft do this automatically, but you need to do it manually for the older aircraft.

I had gotten my Concorde rating a couple weeks ago. I used the freeware model made by Guzman Artes which had the GPS Nav. However I have the PSS now to use.
