Was on finals at MMMX in my trusty PMDG 773ER and as I touched down I go the dreaded blue screen. first one since getting my computer, which is just over a year old (got it September of 2013). System rebooted fine, but I don't know if I should be checking anything out or doing anything about it, I don't know what caused it either. I looked in the event viewer, but do not know what I am looking for.

System temperature? Is it cooled down properly? Running FSX grinds CPU like no tomorrow, so it probably got too hot.

I had the same thing. My system ran flawlessly for a year or more, then a blue screen. I did what you're doing, worry that it's something going wrong, going to get worse, etc. etc., but it never happened again. Hopefully you'll just chalk it up to "one of those things."

download CPUz and Hardware monitor, Run Prime95 and do torture test for about an hour, then check your max temps on your CPU. that will tell you if its a problem. You can also check yoru Vid card temps as well.

I have CPUz, I have Hardware Monitor. I downloaded Prime95 and followed the instructions, but do not know if it actually worked or tested...how do I start it and stuff?

ok with prime95, go to Torture test, and select BLEND mode. That will stress all cores on your CPU and let you know if you have any errors, and then watch your max temps on your cpu.
you could download Heavens Benchmark 4.0 to run your vid card and make sure its not a cooling issue with that. That has caused BSOD before too.

Did a bunch of benchmarks with the Prime95 - came up with no warnings, but my Temps were around the following during and after were between 90-175*F for all items. I did 4 benchmarks with the benchmark software with different settings and averaged them Out:
FPS - 27.6
Score - 695
Min FPS - 12
Max FPS - 60
This did not make complete sense to me considering in FSX with my settings and everything I usually have Max 160FPS, average 50 FPS....but whatever.
I went and I CLEANED out my computer, you should have seen the amount of dust in there, blew it out, a ton came out of the GPU...anyway, am going to rerun the benchmarks again see how it goes.

Benchmarks from cleaning computer:
FPS - 28.62
SCORE - 721
MIN FPS - 16
MAX FPS - 62
Ran Prime95, no warnings...temps of GPU while doing benchmarks never went above 65*C, all other temps from 70-95*F, much lower then before probably cause of no dust. I hope I dont get any blue screens. any other reasons they would happen? It said something about lack of disk space, I have 296GB free out of 1.81TB on the D drive, and 94.2GB free out of 465GB on the C drive. FSX and all FSX things are on D drive.
Is there a way to run prime95 and have it give me results in some sort of easy to read format like the benchmark software? I dont really know how to read it when its testing, dont know what I should be looking at.

I don't know how to prevent a blue screen, but if it happens again, try to get the error code before your computer shuts off, it could be very useful to determining what it might be. In many cases on my end it was due to an incompatible or outdated driver software, usually in the Chipset drivers.
By the way, you say you max at 160FPS and average 50... I MUST know what you're specs and settings are

175f seems like a lot of heat there Joe, what cooling solution do you have for your cpu?
when i run prime95 my cpu never gets over 59c or 139f your running close to 80C.
I run the Noctua NHd14 air cooler.
Running prime95 is just to test for stability againts freezing, blue screens, and also to test your system while running a temp monitoring software like HW monitor, YOu should run prime95 for about an hour. for maximum stability,

Sean those were my temps before i cleaned my computer of the immense layer of dust in my computer, and as i said you should have seen the dust that came out of the components...after cleaning it and testing it again temps went down to about 64-66*C, much lower.
Honestly
I know i have a huge dust problem, and i dont know how to fix it.... My computer is elevated, i have liquid cooling for CPU, 12 case fans, HDD cooling. I have HEPA filter in my room.

I was gonna do a post and got caught up with school! But anyway, I am not quite sure exactly where u are, but you said Southern NH...so if you are closer to the coast, expect more rain/ice turning to rain/snow tomorrow night, not much accumulation. WHAT will happen is the Center of low pressure will move up off the coast of Maine and then recycle itself and reciculate back around NY, great Lakes and depart off of or south of Long Island by Friday...When it does that recirculation, the majority of the precip will reform over Western NY, some of Massachusetts, not making it very far East to coast...So places like NYC might wake up thursday morning with an inch or so of snow...
This isnt really the whole story, I could get really technical but too tired rn.

I would leave it alone. One BSOD is not an issue, a sequence of them is. The single BSOD could be caused by one of many totally random glitches--this is FSX running on Windows after all--that would be impossible and unnecessary to find. And trying to find it could and probably will cause other problems. If you get a second one then go to Avsim:
http://forum.avsim.net/forum/262-crash-to-desktop-ctd-forum/
They have a whole BSOD forum and the first post is a sticky with a BSOD guide. If you have a BSOD problem, and you haven't established that yet, then go through the guide, learn what you're doing, and take a systematic approach to solving it. If you go helter skelter all over you are guaranteed to cause problems.

Open the event viewer and expand the box [Error].......you may post it if you like it.
Like Bill said if it is not recurring on a steady basis leave it alone. .......fixing a problem can get complicated and lead to others.

well joe, are you keeping carcasses in your room? you know what 99% dust is..
I have 2 cats, My fans get all ingested all the time, I once a month will take my machine out and blow it all out.
what you could do is maybe put a hepa filter for all the inlet grills, since you have a water cooling solution, the only one not covered would be the radiator that blows out anyway,
