Happy holidays everyone! Ok,ive been running fsx on win 7 64,8 gig ddr2 ram,gtx650 gpu,and a phenom2 x4 820 @2.8 ghz. Runs fairly well for what it is. My qustion is, i have a phenom2 x4 940 unlocked @3.0 ghz stock. Socket is the same,do you think it would be worthwhile to swap out the cpu's? Whould i pick up performance? Also,is the gtx 560 a good pair for these cpus? Thank you all for your time,i am confused?!

Remember Peter changing to a good CPU means you will need to change your motherboard too.

I have researched this and as i already have a phenom2 x4 820 with the same socket. Thats what i was told,im looking for advice on if i should bother with the swap. Is the phenom2 x4 940 at 3.0 ghz unlocked. Bettter than my current phenom2 x4 820 at 2.8 ghz locked. Is the swap worth it?

It appears that the Phenom2 x4 940 is no longer manufactured and only available used for about $100 or so. There is no guarantee that it will work in your PC and even if it does, there is still no guarantee that it will provide an increase in performance. You won't really know unless you try. I'd put the money towards a new computer. Full disclosure, I've been in computer support since 1977 but didn't get heavily into PC's until 2004. The technology is changing on an almost daily basis and I don't think you will see much of an increase.

I agree with Norm here I don't think you will see much of an improvement and don't think it will be worth the time and hassle. The 940 uses more power and only gives a negligible increase in performance.

I don't know what your experience building/working on computers is, but swapping cpu's shouldn't be a problem if it's the same socket. However, my current cpu is an old Phenom at 3Ghz, and it is honestly my bottleneck.
With a decent video card it will run FSX well, but it is hard for me to say 2.8 to 3 is much of an upgrade. Also 3 is starting to sound slow in today's terms in general.
