I am looking to install P3D but I have a couple of questions

1) What version do I need and what is the cost?
2) Is this an add-on that installs directly into FSX
3) Are they any add-ons for FSX that are not compatible with P3D?

and finally is there a place where I can go to get a complete set-up guide?

Thanks, I guess thats a start but I'm sure I will have many more questions to follow.

And 1 last question....is it an amazing transformation compared to FSX?

1. P3D 2.4 Academic License is enough (59.95$)
2. It's a stand-alone flight simulator not an add-on
3. Plenty, but there are workaround for some of them. Google will help you with that.

You can go to P3D forums.
It is an upgrade in visuals since it uses DX11, transparency and shadowing, but it will require a decent PC to run it well.

If you decide to go with P3D you should consider the Estonia Migration Tool. It will import many FSX and FS9 aircraft and sceneries.
