The Boeing 747SP is a longer range modified version of the Boeing 747-100. The SP stands for "Special Performance". Compared with its predecessor, the 747-100, the 747 SP keeps the same body width, 4 engines, and double-deck design. However to increase range it has a shorter fuselage length, larger tail, and simplified flaps. These modifications gave it an additional 550nm in range over the 747-100. Pan Am first introduced the aircraft in the 70's. Pilots who have attained the 747 rating can receive the rating for the 747 SP by selecting Request Additional Ratings in the Pilot Center for the 747 program.
The Boeing 747 SP can be obtained from sites such as flyawaysimulation.com, simviation.com and flightsim.com for FS2004 and FSX.

Also added to the fleet are two short field capable turboprops, the L-188 Electra and the DHC-7. The L-188 was the first large turboprop airliner in the US and was used by Western Airlines prior to regional jets entering the market. It originally flew in 1957 and featured Fowler Flaps. The DHC-7, also called the Quad Otter, was a 4 engine turboprop with even shorter field capabilities than the L-188 and flown by Pan Am. It was developed from the Dual Otter (DHC-6). Both these aircraft are secondary ratings to the EMB120 program and can be obtained by requesting additional ratings from any stage 1 or 2 program. The L-188 can be obtained for FSX from flyawaysimulation.com or flightsim.com. The FS2004 version can be obtained for calclassic.com. The DHC-7 for FSX and FS2004 can be obtained from flightsim.com.

We’re also considering adding the FH-227 to the fleet, the first turboprop to serve commercial service in the US. It was flown by Northeast Airlines before the merger with Delta. On a related note, Pan Am, Western Airlines, and Northeast Airlines all flew the CV-240 at one time. Since the CV-340 is very similar and already in our fleet, we won’t be adding the CV-240 to the hangar.

Stay tuned for future schedule updates in the historical airlines featuring these aircraft.

Thanks for the additions! I hope flights that will be added will use these aircraft. Wouldn't it make more sense to make the L-188 be obtainable in the DC-6 program?

Good question Darren. I thought about this a bit. The L-188 is a turboprop, not a piston prop, even though its got some age on it. I likened it to the ATR72 and that's why I put it in the EMB120 program.

I love what you doing with adding all these new flights and planes, kinda got bored of doing similar routes so it comes as a nice change

That DHC-7 kicked my rear KSEA to KPSC. Vref was 84kts. The 4 turboprop engines sure have a lot of power though. I was low then high on approach and slammed that thing on the runway. Great cockpit and model (got it from flightsim.com I think). Cruise was right at 200KIAS. Once you get above 10,000 ft you have to climb at 1000fpm or less. Great VC too and seats.

I adjusted the fuel burn in the profile. Only burns about 435lbs/hour/engine.

Good place for info on the DHC-7 is here: http://members.aon.at/~slenz/dash7.html

Great post Andrew. I have no personal experience in turbo-props but have flown with plenty of P-3, C-130 and PT6 experienced guys and gals. Turbo-props are a great blend of the two modes of power production. The limiting factor is either torque or TIT, depending on conditions: very simple to monitor. I've flown J.R.Lucariny's Electra in 2004 for many hours and it is a great flight model (once I figured out how the beta range on the throttle worked!) Great stuff!
