Hi everyone.
With PMDG launching its P3D capability, I'm asking around for advice from those who currently use Prepar.
Do's. Dont's?
Is it worth it?
Is it complicated to install and tweak such as Fsx is?
I'm thinking of making the change but if it's gonna be the same as Fsx then why the bother right? Maybe just wait until they launch the X64 version, though who knows when that might be...
A word of advice?
I appreciate your thoughts. Gnite

Isidoro;
Looking for the same thing. I think with 64bit coming out, it will be amazing. I`ll wait a little.

Do we know when will the X64 be out?
Just the thought of installing a new sim to have it running as FSX with the same used problems gives me a headache.
Unless of course there is improvement in the current prepar3d
Cheers

P3D is probably going to be the future of Flight Sim. However, I don't believe it's there quite yet. A step in the right direction though, is PMDG rolling out a compatible 777. Let's hope the NGX, MD-11 and other products of theirs follow suit.

I agree.
The release of PMDG is what got me thinking of changing platforms. But haven't made my mind yet. I don't want to get into the struggle of finding out what to tweak and how to do it if im going to end up currently with the same sim as FSX....I guess time is not worth it if there isn't any significant improvement in the jump...

I think I am going to wait for 2.5 to come out that supports 64 bit myself, as I believe this will be a paid upgrade instead of free like the others if I am not mistaken.

It's a rumor, nothing in stone. Might be in version 3 as this would be a major update.

P3D is way better than FSX (in my opinion) right now. There are talks of a 64-bit (even from PMDG). So there will be one eventually.

One of the main reasons I'm really avoiding P3D is because a lot of great AFCADs are incompatible. You need to recompile them or something so unless you have payware all airports are out of date. I have well over 100 AFCADs and recompiling them will take a LOT of time.

I'd switch to P3D when it's a 100% install and fly...I don't want to deal with anymore BS with a program like FSX where I have to invest 15-20 hours in an "attempt" to get it semi-stable. That crap is for the birds!
My wife and I are expecting twins. I plan for them to be able to fly on here before they can ride a bike. So in a few years you'll be seeing other "Martin" names on here

Guys I have been on the P3D bandwagon since teh 1.x version, I have to say that version 2.5 is really good. I see all the time people asking for the cfg setup and the tweaks, to answer those questions the best setup you can use is how it installs itself. Issues that I have been seeing is those that are still trying to use their add-ons. I can say that I have no issues, I run PMDG, Aerosoft, CS, CLS, JF, to name a few and all is good.
My biggest issue with P3D was not being able to save or load a scenario. Then I figured it out, when installing aircraft especially those that you download from other than Payware, you cannot have open aircraft in you aircraft.cfg file. For example [Aircraft=01] instead of [Aircraft=XX], the xx's will throw it off, so just delete those and all is good.
No P3D has not come out with the 64bit version yet, but for right now I am perfectly happy and have not suffered OOM failure, I do not have slide show effect, and except for some FSX v9 issues, I can fly just about anything that was FSX.
So is it stable, for me running a a good but not top of the line system, yep! So the water is fine, come on in!

Yes I have been flying P3D since V1 and 2.5 is nothing short of awesome. It looks stunning, runs smooth, I get great frame rates on my triple screen display. Now with PMDG in the p3d game there is no reason to stick with FSX. FSX:SE if you really want to, but why bother. P3D is so far ahead of FSXSE in terms of updates and development I don't see dovetail ever catching up. You would be better off going to X-plane. All of my addons that are p3d specific work right out of the box. ASN was the only one that I had a little trouble with, but their latest beta for 2.5 works fine. Just dive in and get p3d you won't regret it.

And with more and more OOMs on landings, the gange to P3D is becoming a necessity. Every day I see more add ons and great reviews about this sim. I guess change is evidential.
I hear theres a lot of tweaking to do also to P3D. Is there something like venetuo for P3D as it is for FSX?
Thanks! good day!

Hello Isidoro,
I have been using P3D (v2) for more than a year and I can assure you Kris Greenough has advised you well. Any changes (tweaks) you may want to perform are all outlined by the Lockheed developers in their installation instructions. There is NOT any tweaking required (only optional stuff) you may want to change.
Just start as soon as possible and you will be very pleased. I'm sure there will be DVA pilots around here to help,
if and when you need it.

Thanks everyone.
So I installed p3d and go it running. No the quest for adding begins.
A couple of questions maybe you can help me out.
1- I used FSInn on a networked computer to fly online. I see this doesn't work with p3d bi there is a software called vpilot. Can anyone help me out to setup this one using a networked computer? Which leads to my second question....
2- I use sim connect and widefs to connect fsx to my computers. Can I use the same formula? Hi do I setup simmconevt and widefs to work with p3d?
Your advice is greatly appreciated as always.

You want to make sure and start here >>> http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=132&t=64672
I use vPilot on my networked PC and it works perfect. You will be using sim connect (widefs is NOT needed). This set up allows you to always view the information windows on the 2nd PC while still using P3D computer for transmitting and receiving ATC voice. Just spend some time in the instructions and you should be good to go.
Good Luck and Blue Skies,

Vincent. Im kinda going crazy with simconnect setup for p3d. Do you know maybe a tutorial that I could look on? I checked the P3D tutorial for SDKs but im not just that much of a computer genius.
Thankyou!

I think I got simconnect ( I realy don't know) Working. Vpilot Traffic proxy works and connects to the sim on the server pc, but Vpilot program on the client keeps looking for the simulator, never finds one.
WideFS (Though I saw on your post is not needed), does connect to P3D.
THANKS!!

Nope. Sim connect is the problem. It's causing vpilot to bring out an error. I need to find out guess how or what to configure on simconnect.cfg and .ini.

After a couple days of installation. All seems to be working. I'll be making my first flight tomorrow.
It feels kinda of a milestone. I've been flying MFS for more than 18 years now. Let's see how Lockheed treats us. But at first glance, it's looking great and I dunno but having some guys over at Lockheed that give you some support is kinda comforting.
Happy skies.

For you guys already flying with P3D. I have an I 3770K processor. Not overclocked. I've been playing around with the settings but I'm still getting some frame hits when flying into a high density airport using PMDG. Which I know it's kinda normal.
But perhaps you can share with me some of your settings for P3D?
Should I overclock?
I know there aren't many tweaks to be done with the .cfg, but Kanye there are some basic 2 or 3 that can greatly improve performance?
Thank you. Good week end!

OCd at 4400 stable, much much nicer and smoother. Loving P3D. Though there are still lots of add ons that are not compatible for example LFPG.
Anyway, happy flying.

Hey Isidoro! I just sent you an email regarding getting vPilot to work as I am running into the same problem that you were and am about to rip my hair out! Hopefully the email doesn't go to spam or you will see this. Thank you! Blue skies, all!
