In 1969, Northeast Airlines was flying routes between JFK and Boston to serve smaller airports in Eastern Massachusetts. These included Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Hyannis and New Bedford Massachusetts. Keep in mind these airports have extremely short runways and were designed for smaller aircraft. Eventually, Delta took over Northeast Airlines, and the FH-227 for a short time.

Schedule Database: NEH
Flight Numbers: 5500-5507 (2 leg trip)
Route: KJFK to (EWB or MVY) to BOS, BOS to (ACK or HYA) to JFK
2-Leg Distance: Varies from 183nm to 252nm

Very cool Drew! Are you working on the other FH227 flights through ORH, EEN, LEW and AUG and the like? Just wondering.

I haven't gotten there yet Jim. I wanted to throw up a few initially when I added the aircraft.

Out west, there were several other F-27 carriers who ended up merged, eventually into Delta. The one I remember most is West Coast Airlines (first U.S. F-27 operator and served my hometown of Klamath Falls, OR), which merged with Pacific Airlines and Bonanza Airlines to create Air West (1968), which Howard Hughes purchased (making it Hughes Airwest). Hughes Airwest merged into Republic Airlines (1980), which merged into Northwest Airlines (1987), which, of course, was purchased by Delta (2008). The F-27 operators in this crazy chain were West Coast, Pacific, Bonanza, and Hughes Airwest. This would be an interesting heritage route nightmare - many of the cities served by these airlines in California were around 50 mi. apart.

That would be fun...lots of cycles and even more fumn when the weather goes down. Nothing like those 8 leg days with all instrument approached to make a real pilot out of ya!

Tom Gibson has several great period scenery areas for California and other western states at calclassic.com

I flew CLT to ATL once a couple years ago in a DC-9-50 and after the arriving, spent some time talking to the pilot. He said he did 6 legs back and forth in one day and was utterly exhausted when it was over. I can't recall his name but a really nice pilot who took time to answer questions.
