My PMDG quit working and is now in the trash. Which is better, Capt Sim, or Virtual Pilot 3D? Has anyone ever encountered any VATSIM issues with Virtual Pilot, because that is what I'm leaning towards. Is Virtual Pilot a replacement for FSX, or do I need to retain my FSX files? Is there any other top notch software that works with no problems that are recommended?

Virtual Pilot 3D looks like another Flight Gear put on DVD scam.

What is your windows OS? If you have windows 8, you will mainly have trouble with FSX period. Some will say it works, but from what I hear around, it is bit rare to hear FSX works flawless with Windows 8, 8.1. Before you continue on, I highly recommend to downgrade to Windows 7 64bit ( and have RAM of at least 8 gig), tweak fsx.cfg to let FSX utilize up to 3.2 GB of the RAM and give PMDG another shot.
If you want a good sim, X-Plane 10 with Ramzasss 757. Down fall with that is we do not have ACARS supporting x plane and default x plane scenery don't look as good as default FSX per say, but it is being continuously developed, and more addons will follow soon.

FSX was designed for Windows XP and it has ALWAYS had issues regardless of OS. I'm confused by the thread title, are you looking for a new plane or a new simulator?

Fully agree, I'd steer well clear of that one.
If your looking for a stable FS, you have options, mainly X-Plane, P3D and FSX-SE. All have their merit, all have their downfalls. Check the forums and read the reviews, at the end of the day you are the one spending the $.
Take Care,
Greg

I'm sure lots of laughs will ensue but I have FS2004 and love it. I've invested a lot in payware and have it running smoothly. My rig can't really handle FSX and certainly not P3D so I'm good where I am. Its also inexpensive so a good fill-in til you figure out what you want long term. I do believe FSX SE and P3D are the sims of the future. X-Plane still has no full support here although its supposed to be great as well.

As said before, For any future investments I will wait for the next Sim that supports 64 bit to use more than single threads from the CPU and balanced GPU CPU load, especially with windows 10 comming out we cant all be staying 10 years behind we need to push forward,
It took 11 years for me to get fs2004 as smooth on my system keep in mind my setup with 5 screens, using 8 core 4.2 ghz and a 3gig card, but it isnt using more than a single core, and not more than 4 gigs ram,

Yeah blah blah blah Sean with your 10 screens and Giga-Core computer with 50GB video card....
You do bring up a good point and I've noticed this. My system has 4GB of ram, maxed out, but FS2004 will only handle that much so further ram will not help me even if I upgrade my system (if I stick with FS2004).
If I had a bunch of money to spend I would probably invest in a better system and make the move to FSX.

yes drew my point was not to brag about what i have, but what i have fs doesnt even touch and use 1/4 of the power, And why does it take 8 core 4.2ghz 16gigs ram and 7970 3GB card to make FS9 run smooth?? given 11 year old software, why invest money into old old technology? 32 bit and CPU main usage with FSX gpu usage for FS9, no balance, i am not going for pp3d untill a 64bit varient is available. Like you i have invested alot into FS9 that isnt shared with FSX i will hold out for the " NEW MODERN FLIGHT SIMULATOR" i mean look at Elite dangerous and Star citizen? they both use multicore and max ram and gpu cpu balance and looks amazing.

To digress further, our 2 female cats are queens of our house. One is often on the printer watching birds but they generally leave my home cockpit alone.
