I'm considering purchasing a SSD HD and move all my FS stuff there. I would like a 1TB drive. All these planes and multiple platforms are going to take some space. Is there a brand or type of SSD that are more reliable? I know nothing about computers and even less about this. Thanks

What about this one? I don't mind spending a little. A SSD will keep my FS stuff running well for a long time. As of now it takes FSX well up to 20-30 seconds to boot up.

I have the Samsung 850 PRO as well. Works great compared to a standard drive. Boot up is quick as is access to all the files. FS2004 loads way faster as well and reloads after quitting out in like 1-2 seconds. Mine is 250GB, more than enough for me.

an SSD wont affect the load time of FSX, the FSX load time is loading all your aircraft and active sceneries you have active in the addon folder as well as the default flight, Keep that in mind.

I do not know if getting a huge SSD is the answer for FSX, for me, I find it more beneficial to run my OS on a 256 gb HD, and I run my FSX on another 512 GB HD. Most of the FSX stuff that does not require read and writes after load, I tend to keep off my SSD's. I also try to keep my addons and scenery to only what is necessary, for instance, when I am not flying in some countries, I will take off my flytampa airports to help with FSX load. Even my payware aircraft, I will do the same because that is what really kills your FSX, SSD or not.
You can even look at frooglesim and some of those big fsx experts, they keep it to a minimum as much as possible and reinstall often. I try to reinstall my fsx every 6 months, and it amazes me every time the difference.

I use (and have used) several SSDs (Intel, Kingstom, Crucial, Samsung) and all work more or less equally well. I don't care for benchmarks, so I just judge them by their everyday performance. I didn't use any SSD long enough to be able to share some long term experience, but so far I never had any issues.
At the moment i am using a Kingston 128GB SSD for the system and three 250GB SSDs for games/simulations. FSX and X-Plane have their own dedicated drives (Samsung EVO), the third one contains the rest. An additional HD is used for weekly backups of all the SSDs.

Hi Art;
I strong recommend to have a 1TB SSD if you willing to have a bunch of addons. If not, them go to a small capacity. about 512MB is alright. If you FSX it will process the startup faster. I would also recommend to have SSD for your OS, about 256MB.
But it will all depend on your taste. Samsung Pro`s are very good. But other such as (Crucial, Intel - The best ones out there).
