I'm always surprised at how quickly flight reports are evaluated and approved, especially given that I live 10 or so time zones ahead of the U.S. And that DVA is staffed by volunteers. What idoes the review process entail, anyway?

Not much really. We look through the flight reports and look out for anything that looks wrong ect.
A flight report normally dosen“t take more than 5-10 seconds to process unless something catches our eyes and needs investigation.

Regarding the time zone thing, we are atleast 3 staff members living in Europe which might answer your question on why reports sometimes are processed during day and night.

The review process is performed by any of 39 on staff. We look at the main criteria to receive approval. These are: valid flight in the schedule, that aircraft can make the trip, that the pilot is rated in the aircraft he or she flew, and that the flight was completed. If there are any flags we contact the pilot to ask them about it. Some pilots never respond. Some times acars isn't totally accurate so we need to do some digging and asking About the flight. There are a lot of staff from different time zones. Some seem to be online for a lot of their day so it often doesn't take long to get a flight reviewed. I'd say there is a friendly competition amongst staff on who approves the most flight reprts each month.

AFVA has different guidelines and limits on flight performance for approval So you'd have to ask their staff about their process.
