Anyone know if the new Win 10 will work with FS4, FSX and ACARS? I will wait a few weeks after the July 29 release just to let them work out the bugs that always occur with a new OS, before I install it. Also backup EVERYTHING !

a couple of things about windows 10:
1. you don't have the intermittent outages of flight controls seen in windows 8 power management
2. I have steam version Acars pmdg and several scenery packs installed and they all work well.
3. I don't know for sure but I think memory management is better
4. I don't know if this is a problem with this current build or not but I can not add multiple clocks
5. Changing settings can be a pain. for example I wanted to make chrome my default browser and had to go through computer settings to do so, couldn't do it in chrome.
6. right now project spartan (the new windows web browser) is junk again they have taken customization away from the user. I have a windows course lab that requires active controls and spartan doesn't allow for adding or removing these because they ae a security risk ( the course is run by Microsoft)
7 I do not use Cortina but I do use her search function a lot. however when you get windows 10 I suggest removing the search bar and just use the magnifying glass. It will save on real estate.

If you have anymore questions ask away. BTW I am using build 10130 at the time of this writing, things might change as more builds come out.

I have been part of the preview beta since the beginning so it was free for me. I don't know about pricing for the windows 10 RTM. but yes it was free just remember that installing it on your primary machine may be risky. I set up another machine and did a clean install.

i cant open my acars in this windows 10 , i get a message saying " Windows Cannot access the specified device,path,or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item " has anyone gotten this message too ??

For Windows 10 it will be a lottery. Not everyone will get for free at first. But I heard that it will be free for everyone that came from other windows. Because Apple`s OS`s where free 2 years in a row.

Correct. Just install the latest updates, and you will get a free software that is a "preorder" for Windows 10 (you will get notified on the 29th to install it).

Yes, as I am advised from several reliable sources, this is a free upgrade to Win 10 for all current Win 7 and Win 8 users. I currently have Win 8.1. I understand all of confusion and skepticism concerning this upgrade. I am just going to wait for all of the smoke to clear before proceeding. Thank You all for your replies.

so posting this for those of you beta testing Windows 10. FYI the TH 10240 build will install the beta nvidia driver for those using Nvidia cards, at the moment this driver really messes with the cursor size. I recommend after install role back to the June 22nd driver until this gets fixed. Not a big issue but was scratching my head wondering why my cursors were 3x their normal size.

Well, Win10 comes out in four days, and until then, I'll be on a hiatus from FSX due to some problem I'm having with both ACARS and FSX-SE (ACARS won't close its settings menu, and FSX-SE refuses to open after I left in on overnight for yesterday's event. I hope the Beta testers were right about the performance Windows 10 has on FSX.

I have every add-on for fs2004 on windows 8.1 running perfect, not looking forward to windows 10 for fs2004, there was a lot I had to work out with getting fs2004 to run on 8.1, so fs2004 on windows 10 does not look probable, but we'll see.

The most recent was the fact that windows 10 updated and tried to look for an Nvidia driver that didn't exist, so it completely disabled the card. I couldn't use my second monitor and the resolution on my first was using the default windows driver, so the resolution was poo. It was like this for about 10 hrs. until windows released a new update. Previously it was set to accept beta nvidia drivers in the update, which had issues as well and I had to roll back. For me these are fine due to having multiple machines. However if it was my only PC I would have been up the creek waiting for Microsoft to fix the issues. Others are being kicked to recovery mode and some are getting random crashes. Since the fix came out I have been pretty stable but just want to give people a heads up.

I was going to post my first impressions here, but FSX-SE bugged out, showing a BSOD whenever I open it. It's the same with Win8.1 as well. Every BSOD has the same error message: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. Suggestions please?

first are you running symantics touchpad? if so hook up a mouse and remove the symantics drivers and reinstall them. What is happening is a driver is timing out and the watchdog is trying to protect your system. So it is driver related.

Okay. My Nvidia Geforce 820M driver is apparently causing problems. It also caused problems days before I updated to Win 10. I'm going to try to install it tomorrow without deleting the C:/Nvidia folder when I'm done.

Reading lots of posts on Facebook and Avsim about simmers running into issues after installing Windows 10 and having to roll back to Windows 7 . I'm waiting a long time before I install it. I see no advantage at this point, since my system on Windows 7 works perfectly. If it ain't broke, I am not fixing it.

Windows 10 is a free install/upgrade, as said above. I'm having no luck at all getting into AKARS atm. Next step is to reinstall AKARS. I may need new credentials at that point.

Side note, my son upgraded to Win 10 and really liked it until last night. He plugged in his headphones. Some popup appeared with many options of software to install. He clicked out. His headphones didn't work. he rebooted, the popup never came back up and he still can't get his headphones to work. He then rolled back to Win 7.

I'm sure there is going to be quite a learning curve with Win10. Sticking with Win7 64-bit for now.
