I bought a Nvidia 770 GTX yesterday and it is NOT a good upgrade to the NVIDIA 560 TI. Just thought I would post that here for anyone who has an older card; newer isn't necessarily better. Framerates didn't really improve all that much, and the picture looked poor. Popped my 560 back in and everything is back to normal.

I may try a Nvidia 960 but at this point I'm not really sure where the bottleneck is. Rig is AMD FX4350 (Quad 4.2 GHz), 8 Gig RAM, Nvidia 560 Ti, and running off an SSD.

I don't know what sim you use but with FSX frame rate bottleneck typically is not the video card because FSX wasn't developed to integrate or take advantage of the newer video card technologies offered in the last few years. Upgrading video cards won't give you the best bang for the buck.

Unless you're moving to P3D or cranking up the resolution significantly you're not likely to see much of an advantage in FSX - as Jason points out you're likely CPU limited. The graphics got worse likely because the old settings weren't being loaded by the driver for the new card. Check via nVidia Inspector.

What you WILL notice is a significant reduction in heat and power consumption. You'll also appreciate it when you increase screen size - I went from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 this weekend and my 760 kept pace just fine (at least in the QW757; not sure what the PMDG products will do).

Well by way of an update, I ended up returning the 770. It turned out that the only plane where I did not see a good improvement was the Level D 767. All the other aircraft I was seeing a marked improvement, around 30-40%. But since I am already getting 80+ fps (in some a/c and views over 120+) with the 560Ti, it wasn't worth the $200 to upgrade to the 770 if I wasn't going to see significant improvement with the Level D. I may try the 970 when it comes out. I have a fairly quad-CPU running quite fast (4.2 GHz), so I'm not sure that it's the CPU, but you could be right. With my 560Ti I get 40-50 fps with the Level D.

I upgraded to a solid state drive today, and I run 70 fps with max settings on the ground at FSDT JFK now.
