Hi, all. I run FS9 on a Windows 8 laptop that I recently purchased to replace my 5+ year-old Windows 7 laptop. The add-ons I run are ACARS, the FS 9.1 patch, DF 727, QW 757, Edit VoicePack, and some of the free airport update packages you can get from avsim (Asian airports package and jetways/terminals AFCAD package to major US airports). All of these have worked fine on the new computer (did not test the QW 757 yet, but it has been installed and was not causing issues) until last night.
Last night, out of the blue, I get a warning pop-up on start-up saying that the Scenery.cfg file is damaged or missing, and FS9 will not start. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, including the option to delete all other files, and still no luck. Every time I check, the scenery.cfg is in the main Flight Simulator 9 folder where it's supposed to be (as far as I know). I have also tried replacing the Scenery.cfg file as suggested on some of the sim forums (though the posts are several years old by now) or copying and pasting over the notepad file with replacement content.
As far as I am aware, I did not install any new sceneries or Windows updates between the last time FS was working and when I started getting the error. It also doesn't seem to be a Windows 8 issue in general, as it was working fine before. I also don't run a lot of other programs that I'd think would interfere with FS9. Does anyone have an idea what may be going on that even the hard uninstall/reinstall route won't work? I know FS9 is an older program, but since I'm limited in hardware, it would be nice to be able to keep FS9 instead of going to FSX (plus, I like knowing how the folders are set up for when I want to make changes or need to troubleshoot). I appreciate any insight you guys can provide.
