The South American Samba Club will give pilots a Latin flavor by flying out of airports from Panama south throughout South America. While some of these airports are larger, some are quite small with short runways and in some cases may have dirt or grass instead of asphalt. Visit all 35 airports to achieve this accomplishment. Much thanks to DVA veteran Roger Pilgrem for thinking this one up. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes!

If dancing isn’t enough to get you moving, try your hand at the Piranha Club which requires flying into airports along the Amazon River formerly served by Pan Am. There’s only eight airports to visit and the distances are not all the long but I’m sure you’ll find them a challenge to get into and out of. I strongly recommend piston props or aircraft with shorter field capabilities. Don’t overrun the field or you may end up in the river with more than just water to worry about.

Thank you my friends for adding these new achievement accomplishments. I enjoy the challenge of learning
new regions and airports I would not have thought to visit otherwise.

I think it really give us DVA employees a fun and interesting goal to aim for while enjoying our hobby together.

It's quite nice to see my fellow Captains reach these achievements!

I can speak for myself that I've learned a lot about Alaska now. It was nothing short of incredible what the
US Army Corps of Engineers (and Canadians) went through to build those bases and infrastructure during
the 2nd world war.

Is there a map for these accomplishments like there is for Iditarod? I'd like to do some of the accomplishments once I'm done with my "CRJ to Europe" craziness, but I don't know where to find the route maps. (For e.g., here's the URL for the Iditarod map: www.deltava.org/gallery/DVA/0x72a9.jpg)

Sorry Richmond, that is not a Delta map. That is a replica of the real Alaska Iditarod race that was held this year.

Try this one. It is the only route map of which I am aware.

Huh. Thanks, but I wish there were maps like that. That could be a cool suggestion. Something like a map of the recommended route (obviously not for something like the 50 States Club, but for something like Iditarod or Piranha) would be cool. I'll have to suggest that. smile

Thanks,
Richmond

I try to post maps when I add new flights to the historical schedule database. They're a high level overview which is why I try to also include the individual flight numbers and airport codes. I could probably do this for the Iditarod Club when I have time. Here is a list of the airports for the club: ADQ, ANC, BET, BIG, BRW, CDV, FAI, GAL, HOM, JNU, KTN, MCG, OME, ORT, OTZ, SCC, SGY, YDB, YFS, YMM, YQH, YQU, YVQ, YXJ, YXY, YYE

You'll have to use the schedule search function to find valid flights to/from them.

Here's a quick question: could the achievement maps be stored under a title in the document library?

I just realized something. With all these new international accomplishments Drew has been putting up, he has sucessfully kept me out of US airspace (except for connection purposes) for at least the last 4 months. And I'm due for at least a week in South America now too!

Ha ha. Thanks for the kind words. They're fun to implement and I have a dozen or so in my back pocket. I'll issue more when the feeding frenzy dies down.

Incidentally, I'd add some in the US but may be perceived as too one sided.

I'm on my way to S America as well to look for man-eating fish.
