Pan Am expanded their cross the Atlantic routes in 1950 to include this interesting DC-4 route originating in Havanna and ending in Madrid by way of Bermuda and the Azores. I put this in the schedule as a DC-6 flight but PA used a DC-4 on it.

I saw that Delta is planning flights ATL to Havanna sometime in 2016 but people can't reserve seats just yet.

Just finished the first leg of the flight (Havana to Bermuda). Over 4 hours of pure joy! The crew needs some rest now before the second leg to the Azores.

I found a very interesting one in a 1950 pan am schedule. It extends a flight from the US, across the Atlantic and through Rome to Libya of all places. I may try to get that one in this week.

Drew - bear in mind we used to have a significant US Air Force presence in Libya in the until King Idris was thrown over by Moammar Ghadaffi. In fact one of the based (Wheelus AFB) was the largest U.S. military facilty outside the United States with an area of 20 sq miles right on the coast off Tripoli. The base had its very own Beach Club, the largest Military Hospital outside the US, a multiplex cinema, a Bowling Alley and a High School for 500 students. The base also had its own radio and TV station as well as a shopping mall and fast food chain outlets. At its height it had over 15,000 military personnel and their dependents on base.
