I just picked one of these up off of Black Friday sales... And I'm wondering if anyone else out there is having the same trouble I'm having with the keyboard mapping of default aircraft & shareware types??

I have the MCP 1 which I love.
I use LINDA (donationware ) which is the best thing ever.
LINDA will allow you to map all the buttons, knobs, displays and much more.
There is a learning curve but well worth it.
I am not an expert but I can help you if you have any questions.

I believe you are right.
Ever thought about upgrading to FSX or P3D?
I currently use P3D version 3 and love it.
Frame rates are good and shadows in the cockpit have to be seen to be believed.

I am heavily invested into FS9, software alone well in excess of $2,000 in add-ons, currently constructing a full scale flight deck at home. I choose FS9 because of its ability to NOT take a performance hit when multiple undocked windows are open, all other platforms take the hit, FSX is the worst offender in the crowd. I won't look at P3D until they come out with a 64bit version.

You took the words right outta my mouth. Get out of my brain lol. Im with you. with my semi full scale sim with multiple undocked displays now getting the frames i wanted with my new hardware. I am also heavily invested with FS9, and only FLytampa offers both fs9 fsx versions with one software download. just amazing that t took 11 years after FS9 to get it to run this good

Nice setup! Good to see other hardcore sim enthusiasts! Do you have any Pics to post?
I can tell you Going from AMD 8120 4.2GHZ to Intel 4790k 4.7 ghz is such a giant step up in performance, This new setup of mine blows anything i had previously out of the water. Literally doubling my frames without studders.

Photos to come when its completed & finished in the spring time. Don Baker, our L-1011 CP is coming out from Georgia to check ride it, proof the logic programming in the deck itself and offer his professional opinion, Don has 24-25 years @ Delta as a Sim Tech, 10 years prior in the USAF doing the same. I also have a couple of local, very experienced real world commercial pilots going to check ride in it as well...
I'm a hard core AMD fan!! The FX-8370 will OC to 5.0Ghz, however I really don't like running it that hard, even with the liquid cooling. In the single threaded/single core arena Intel reigns supreme, and that lends its hand to such great performance in FS9 & especially FSX due to their old code designs!! Once you start talking full multi-core/multi-thread optimized software & 64Bit then the tables turn, the AMD FX burns the Intel i7 to the ground, including the new Sky Lake version. X-Plane v10 64Bit screams on my system, and I'm betting and banking on Lockheed producing a 64bit P3D, once that happens AMD will be rocking the flight sim community...
I'm currently getting 100 FPS sustained on FS9, while using Nvidia Inspector to tune it to the composite x64 AA setting... I know there are those out there that will say that FS9 will not make use of my GTX-690, which is true, however the 690 is in fact post processing what it gets with the help of Inspector and the results are AMAZING!!!
FSX I'm running 28-45 FPS on the ground & 85-130 FPS in the air, Nvidia Inspector is set to run x9 BIAS AA, which gives the best results with the least load on the 690...
X-Plane 10 I'm seeing a solid 45-50 FPS no matter what I'm doing...
Yes, anything over 60 FPS is a waste on my TV & Monitor setups, however running the speeds that I am give the best over results at arresting screen tear, especially on my Vizios...

Thats Fantastic ! You have Nvidia GPu that lets you use Nvidia inspector, I was running a 7970 3gb card, I upgraded to asus strix r9 390 8GB and now doubling my frames.
also having the 8120 4.2 ghz chip was the throttling factor in my system with a bad single core performance.
I also just confirmed that flight factor 757 for Xplane has no 2d Cockpit for panel makers or cockpit builders. So that right there cancels any attempts to get Xplane well just have to wait to get CS757 5.0 for pp3d.
My next step for my 757 build is completing the full size overhead panel, and accessing the logic from the CS757 painstaking with xml since its closed based software but worth it to the end with full functionality.
Hope to see pictures soon, Excited to see other sim enthusiasts! great job!
