I bought a new PC over the weekend and am planning to upgrade it to Win 10. Before I get down this path, anyone else done similar? Also, anyone ever used virtualbox.org with FS X? Thanks for any pointers.

I would advise against using a Virtual Machine for your Windows/FS installation, because you would not be getting to take advantage of the full power of your CPU and graphics card. Never tried it, though.

Yeah I think I'm sticking with the standard Win 7 the PC came with.

I would second avoiding any type of virtual machine setup. Speaking from personal experience with upgrading to windows 10, FSX still works for me, although loading screens take quite a bit longer and certain things cause the computer to lag quite a bit, not something you want on T/O or Landing. I also have P3dV2.5 on there and that is what I primarily sim on these days and it has no issues with the win10 update. If you are considering upgrading to P3D, that would probably be the time to upgrade your OS. What type of computer did you buy btw?

Robert,

I took a look at your rig that you bought, I would suggest sticking to Win7 and FSX until you can invest in a good graphics card and some other upgrade components. Since FSX is already very labor intensive on your CPU, I would avoid placing it in an even tougher situation by having to offer up more resources to support backwards compatibility on FSX. Hope this helps.

V/r,

Still playing around with the new PC but getting crashes and the Saitek USB joystick wants to suddenly not be recognized. I'm thinking it may be the 64-bit Win 7?

Robert, How many USB devices you have plugged in and where do you have them plugged into?

Only my Saitek X52 joystick and throttle to the front of the PC.

is your front PC case USB ports 2.0 or 3.0?

Did you try to plug it into your Main USB ports on the back of the PC on the motherboard I/O?

I think the main fix here was updating FS X to service pack 2. Was able to make a complete flight this AM smile
