This weekend marks some Douglas related historical moments.

This weekend in 1969 was the first flight of the DC-9-20. Take a DC-9-10 fuselage and stick the DC-9-30 wings on it for increase short field performance capabilities and you end up with a smile on Scandinavian Airlines faces! This aircraft flew almost exclusively with SAS. First flight September 18, 1968.

Also on September 18 but 10 years earlier in 1959, the DC-8 first entered service with Delta Airlines and United. Delta Air Lines was the first to use the DC-8 in passenger service.

We celebrate these two accomplishments with two weekend historical flights in our database which will be there through Sunday only.
