Hi guys I wonder if anyone can help, for quite some time I have had great success with FSX on my old rig, however with the release of the new 747 I thought I would upgrade and to my extreme disappointment I am finding I can barely complete a flight, today about an hour into a long haul, I ran into a problem where FSX would freeze every few seconds then carry on after 5-10 seconds, before repeating itself, as you can imagine this is very soul destroying when you have outlayed several 000s on a new rig and that has happened, my thinking is that it's an FSX fault(almost by hope) and that a pc like this should not have a problem, I know PMDG products can be very resource hungry but surely a purpose built flight sim pc should not present to a point where I cant even complete a flight
anyway these are the system specs
SKU CBFUSIONCIRRUS2FLIGHTSIM
Processor: Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake CPU, 4 Cores, 4.2 - 4.5GHz
Overclocking: Overclock my CPU by up to 20%
Case: Cooler Master Silencio 652S Case - Black
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Graphics Card
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H80i V2 CPU Cooler
Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste
Case Cooling: Not selected
Motherboard: Asus STRIX Z270F GAMING Motherboard
Memory: 16GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory (2 x 8GB Sticks)
M.2 PCIe SSD: Not selected
PCIe Express Card SSD: Not selected
OS Drive: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO Solid State Drive
Secondary Hard Drive: Seagate 2TB FireCuda SSHD Hybrid Drive
Additional Hard Drives: Not selected
RAID Configuration: Not selected
Cable case for additional HDDs or SSDs: Not selected
Optical Drive: 24x DVD-RW Drive
Power Supply: Corsair CX750 80 PLUS Bronze 750W PSU
PSU Silencing: Not selected
Sound Card: Onboard High Definition Audio
Internal Card Reader Drive: Not selected
Networking Upgrades: Not selected
Additional Ports and Bluetooth: Not selected
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Now surely these must be good enough to run flight simulator!
My thinking is either
FSX 10 and windows 10( took me ages to have it accept FSUIPC)
Should I now switch to P3D and in doing so would that solve a lot?
Is a better option to take the rig to a computer shop(one about 6 miles away) and have them put windows 7 on
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys
Also I'm running ASN and Vpilot alongside

Many here at DVA use FSX: Steam edition under Windows 10 without any issues, have you considered that? FSX: Steam is alot more stable than FSX boxed. I run Vpilot and ASN on FSX: Steam and have never had an issue. P3D is always an option as well, but I don't have any experience with it yet.
My specs:
Intel Core i7 4770k (overclocked to 4.0ghz)
ASUS Z87 Pro Motherboard
EVGA GTX 760 2GB SC ACX 2.0
Corsair Vengeance Professional RAM DDR3 16GB
150GB Crucial SSD
3 x 1TB Seagate HDD
Windows 10 Home

Have you tried to tweak the fsx.cfg ? That may help with your experience with the FSX.

Jamie, as Soonho said, here is the tweakguide I used on an old laptop, not great specs with fsx https://kostasfsworld.wordpress.com/fsx-software-and-hardware-guide/ I did a flight from ORF-ATL with the QW 757, I had no problems. FSX is not my main sim, I usually use fs9, until I get the rest of my parts for my new rig. Hope this helps

Just a thought: could it be the autosave? I had the same problem with the PMDG NGX where the sim would hang for a few seconds every few minutes. Turned out that disabling autosave in FSUIPC and extending the interval in the DVA ACARS utility helped. You might try this and see if it does the trick.
Also, with that rig I would HIGHLY recommend switching to P3D. I've never looked back since I switched a year ago. Just a more stable platform in my opinion. The only thing that might deter you is that PMDG will make you buy the 747 again...
Hope that helps!

I did the same thing last year..and had FSX turn into a dog. Then I found Nvida Inspector and setting up the graphics card to handle/optimize for FSX...solve 99% of the issues.

Hi guys thanks for all your inputs, I've decided to go with p3d and see how that works, I have also bought the 747 for it aswell, i think the auto save might have been the problem today, however Noah as you say now is the time to move forward as at least with p3d it is a new platform unlike FSX which I found was great for windows 7, but couldn't get it to agree with 8 or 10

If it only happens when using ACARS, try disabling autosave.

I have this same exact problem where it will freeze every couple of minutes then go back to normal, then freeze for 5 seconds then go back to normal. After watching the task/resource manager the "antimalware service executable" was hogging like 20-30% of my resources at the same time it would freeze. In windows 10 windows defender settings, try turning off real-time protection. this eliminated the problem for me, at least until i would restart.

FSX-SE definitely works with Win10. Also SE is already optimized for this and runs well out of the box. Yes it does take some time to get it all set up but most of that time will be spent on you add-ons not FSX-SE. I moved from Win7 to Win10 a while back and had some challenges but once I got those problems worked out it runs very well with all of the add-ons that i had previously in Win7. PMDG, Quality Wings, and REX all work fine. The biggest problem is that updates to Win10 will reset my controller settings occasionally so I have to re-calibrate them at times.

Ok.....first off. Do not start tweaking. Only makes things worse on steam addition. Use Nvidia inspector to set up the gpu. Many examples online. I had the same problem last month when i got my new rig.(i56600k@4.4Ghz,16gbddr4 ram,gtx1070,500gbssd)
I kept pluggin at it and today it runs so beutiful. I was ready to give up on it. But if your using steam.....dont tweak. Unless only you do wide view=True
