Hey guys!
I have been using my brothers desktop to run FlightSim X. I usually fly the PMDG 737 NGX with ORBX global and few A2A airplanes.
The issue is I noticed the FPS is very low with the NGX especially, average=11 last time I checked. While with the a2a around 25FPS.
The desktop run Win 10 x64bit, i7 4790S 3.2GHz, RAM 12Gb and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745.
Is this normal FPS? there are no lagging or anything but it bothers sometimes. the problem stills even with minimum settings. I have not done any tweaking or anything. I usually fly online with vPilot or Ivap is running in the background. So, what do you think?
p.s. I wanna buy AS16 with ASCA but afraid about the performance to get lower than it is.

This does not sound normal to me. The NGX is an intense add-on but it shouldn't be THAT intense, especially with minimum settings.
I'm wondering if there might be a setting in nVidia profile inspector that needs to be adjusted. There could be some useful information here: http://www.robainscough.com/FSX_Settings.html
In general, I've found Rob Ainscough to be a great resource for FSX/P3D performance adjustments. He takes the time to do a lot of trial and error and seems to really understand what is happening "underneath the hood" when you make adjustments to your sim. He is pretty active on Avsim, as well, so you might also try posting your issue to the forums over there.
Hope that helps. Let us know how it goes...

Hello Faisal. The CPU is an i7 4790S @ 3.2Ghz. This is a 4th generation i7 processor with plenty of power, but definitely a lot less than current generation i7 processors. The PMDG 737 NGX is an extremely demanding aircraft. (The A2A planes don't require as much of the CPU, so they run faster as you have noticed.) When you factor in the ORBX global, it only makes the problem worse, as that too requires a ton of processing power. 11 frames per second with that setup is normal, although it may interfere with your flying. You can try tweaking a bit, or if you're up for spending a bit more, you can try upgrading to an i7 6600K. This should boost your frame rate to well over 30fps.
Hope this helps,
Yisrael Wealcatch

The difference between Haswell and Skylake is ~10% at best. The bigger question is whether the processor is being thermally throttled.
Cheers!

That's definitely possible. It's still running at 3.2Ghz though. I have an i7 3770 @3.6Ghz and it's almost the same as a 4790S.

Thank you guys for all your inputs!
I have been looking into this, and some people talking about affinitymask tweak, is it effective in my case?
I will try the Nvidia inspector as Noah mentioned, and will delate ORBX as Wealcatch noted. Will it be enough to go to 30 Fps average?
Sean, I am noobie to all this but I searched and found that overclock is not an option, they say only intel processors with K suffix is able to overclock. Mine is S unfortunately.

FSX is not optimized for multicore support. FSX can't really take advantage of multiple cores, but it does take advantage of higher clocked cores. I have my 4770k @ 4.0 Ghz and it is definitely a noticeable difference over the stock clock of 3.5Ghz. Not much you can do about the clock speed since you have an S processor. If you are running boxed FSX the affinity mask tweak can help. Nvidia Inspector can help you tweak your GPU and maybe get you some more performance. Cloud draw distance and AI density have a pretty large impact on performance as well in FSX.

I don't think you should uninstall ORBX. It's a fantastic product, and makes the sim look great. I would just get a new CPU, but if that's out of the question, I guess you could uninstall ORBX. It's worth a try. If you see major improvements, then at least we know that's the problem. Otherwise, we can keep trying to find the problem.

I just upgraded from i5 2400 to i7 2600 and the same thing happened. FSX SE crawls now. I implemented some stuff I found on various places on the internet and plan to ensure HT is operating. I thought I might see some increase in performance but the system is barely keeping up with what I had running fairly smoothly with the old processor. I can't overclock but I've implemented a lot of fsx.cfg tweaks, MSI Afterburner to control fan speed/temp, and also found my old venetubo config which I cut and pasted. I may just do a full reinstall of FSX SE to clean everything out and start over, not that I feel like spending 3 hours doing this. I'm getting far better than 20fps but its a bit jumpy compared to the old system.

One thing I don't see mentioned is what settings are you running in Nvidia control panel and FSX (super high anti-aliasing etc)?
