As many of your are learning, Luke has added a feature to ACARS to display and log airspace boundaries that are crossed. This just a reminder to staff and pilots that airspace boundary incursion or violation is not a criteria for holding or rejecting a flight. We may utilize this in the future in the flight academy but for now, it is merely a flag (like overweight or runway length flags) that is merely a guideline to help the pilot with his flying or navigation skills.
As outlined in the Pilot Manual, the 2 criteria to receive approval for a flight are 1) Flight must be in our schedule 2) pilot must fly in an aircraft he is rated in to receive approval 3) pilot must complete the flight with adequate fuel reserves and without crashing from gate to gate. There are always extreme exceptions (i.e. a pilot flies 200 miles and walks away and the flight takes 8 hours to complete). AFVA has their own criteria for flight approval so AFVA pilots should consult their own staff for details.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or better yet, open a help desk issue.
Thanks (and much thanks to Luke for continuing to implement cool changes to our system)!

I will add to this, if you look up a NOTAM on the day you fly and the restricted airspace is not "hot", merely note it in your comments. Soonho is working with dispatch to get to a place where the dispatcher can advise the pilot of hot airspaces before they take off. All the more reason to use dispatch for your flights!

Until something is set for the dispatchers, please use the Skyvector to lay out the route, and then see if it crosses any R airspace. And if you are to go through one or more Restricted airspace, then go to this website: https://sua.faa.gov/sua/siteFrame.app to see if that R airspace is active. If you do not see that airspace pop up in the website, then it's cold and you can fly through it. On the right top corner of the page, you will be able to see the Map layers, set it to see only Prohibited and Restricted Area, and IFR Low or High Sections, pertain to your flight altitude like such:
As you can see here:
The R 2910s and R-2907s is laid out, it's not active, so you can fly through that at this specified time but the R2903A and 2904A are active.
To know what altitude the Restricted area starts and tops at, please visit the Skyvector, go to the appropriate Section chart (in the image above, it belongs in the Jacksonville Section chart. Look around in the outer shell of the chart and then you are to see the name of the P, R, A.. etc airspace, what altitude it goes up to, and when it will be active. For instance, this is where you find the information about the R2903A and R2904A
So in this case, the R2903A starts at the surface and up to FL229.9999999999999999999999999999999999 while the R-2904A starts from the surface to 1,799.999999999999999999999999999999999999999~~~~~ feet.
Thank you

Outstanding post Soonho. Excellent web resource. Your graphic was interesting as i have been flying a lot of Florida to ATL so I've gotten some great views of Pine Castle target (R-2910). Thanks for the great work!

It's the least I could do!
I got to fly through R2910 multiple times myself and saw this magnificent range looking facility.
Brings you back some memories eh? haha

I've accidently erased the picture link, so here it goes again:

Very nice. We had a our FE over at ZMA post some traffic flow comparisons due to the Trump in West Palm Beach weekend airspace closures. The reduction of traffic is amazing.

After having ACARS bark at me with red text throughout my entire flight yesterday (hours after I passed through said space) I've gone an amended my flight plans to stay clear of those. Fortunately I only have to worry about florida.. trumps virtual hangar and the nasa facility. Pretty easy to avoid.
