Hi guys. Well its official and long suspected. My CH flightstick is calling it quits on the elevator axis. Down is fine-ish, ailerons are perfect but on the Y pot upper range, pulling on the stick will result in weird lags, jumps, skips, no response and if you hold it in position, it will drift towards center. Finally confirmed this through windows; it would come and go in FSX and drive me up a wall for a while now. Never able to confirm until it got consistent enough.
Needless to say this is causing havoc in my flightsim. So I need a new joystick.
What is the closest to the CH in terms of setup and feel? Would rather avoid rudder twist axis. Or am I stuck buying another one of those 20 year old pot based joysticks..
Requirements: it must have a hat switch for view control. and at least 3 thumb accessible buttons on top.

I really like this one. It has adjustable tension and the twist rudder can be locked if you don't want to use it. Been using it for the last 8 years and I'm very happy with it.

From that it led me to this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826280085&ignorebbr=1 which I just picked up. now just a matter of waiting.
Thanks! Seems that newest thrust can be made left handed which is a bonus.

Skipped lot of sticks and bought used Microsoft Sidewinder FF2. Don't know how it compares to CH but if mine quits, i'll buy another one. Dead zone slack is worth checking. It indicates level of previous usage. Stick with small rattle has plenty of service left. Maybe I should get one for spare as they are turning to unobtainium. Also thought about reworking those rattling plasic-in-plastic joints.

1 year warranty makes me uneasy on something like that.. do they use potentiometers?
My CH stick is 10 years old but has under 1000 flight hours on it. considering AP use, actual stick time is quite low. it sat on the desk collecting dust for a long time. I opened it up and found nothing obviously wrong. now I need to find a replacement pot for it. CH will not sell me anything.. gotta waste my life chasing dealers down

My 16000 just got in and after the usual setting up, did a test around katl (totally realistic, given than im in NZ but I need a familiar place). Well that thing is stiff. My hand is hurting after 20 minutes. Other than that, the center detent is way less pronounced than id expect, the precision and smoothness actually scares me. the FBW system seems to actually work properly. We will see how it does long term. I guess my Y axis on the CH has been going bad for a long time and I just got used to it till it really became obvious.
After some more back and forth with CH they will be sending me a potentiometer so I can fix my CH stick as well. Happy ending to this week after all.
