So I’m contemplating on updating my graphics card to use for fsx. I know first and foremost fsx uses more cpu than gpu, but anyways i want to increase FPS a little better and was wondering what is y’alls take on this?
I have a CyberPowerPC
Windows 10 OS
AMD FX-Radeon 8350 processor (8 cores)
AMD Radeon Graphics card already (came with it)
1TB HDD,
I can run fsx at around 25-40 FPS but the graphics are still about the same as when I first started getting big into flying especially at DVA. I am looking at an NVIDA GE force 730 4gb 128 PCI.
Any advice is appreciated. Amazon has it for a decent price. Thank you.

I'd see what graphics card you have. The 730 is likely to be a downgrade.

The 730 is trash, and the RX460 isn't too bad. Why do you feel you need a new GPU?

Thank you again Luke. I’m definitely not leaning towards the 730. I guess I need to see about boosting performance with what I have.

Sean so the 730 isn’t recommended? Compared to AMD Radeon RX460?

I have 2GB 750ti for FSX SE. It runs smoothly but my quality is limited if I try to run 2 monitors. My next upgrade will be 1060 (3GB for $200). I'm trying to prepare for the future (p3d). I can also, with my current card, run ARMA 3 and other 32-bit software just fine with no glitches or stutters. I read somewhere that nvidia cards are more FSX-friendly but I can't recall the source.

Okay thank you Andrew. Right now I have a 2gb AMD Radeon RX460. I’m debating still. I too recall NVIDIA cards are fsx friendly but I can’t remember where I read that at.

Joe, the RX460 appears faster than the 750Ti. Your card isn't all that bad - I would look at GPU load in something like GPU-Z when FSX is running. Chances are it's that FX8350 that's holding you back; the single-thread performance on that chip isn't particularly great.
Cheers!

Dang, so my CPU is what might be holding me back? I just upgraded that not too long ago. I had a Radeon FX series, 5600 in there. I still get decent performance as is with FSX. Usually in the highs 20’s to high 30’s. I run with 20 percent air traffic. No road ground traffic. Airport vehicles are minimum, and GA aircraft is 2 percent. I’m trying to boost graphics for performance. Like when I’m at cruising altitude graphics appear dull and texture loading is a bit delayed but it loads. Would that be an auto gen by chance?
It’s a learning process. My fx8350 has 8 cores (got the highest I could.) performance greatly improved after upgrading to that.
I run fsx in DX9 as of now. Thought about trying DX10 but iffy on that.
