Colleagues and fellow pilots,
Is there a relatively easy and intuitive way to input flight plan data into FSX without having to manually adjust the flight planner, which can be both tedious and frustrating? I remember back in the day when I was more proficient in the technical aspects of FSX that there was some trick or work around but have since forgotten the method I had previously employed. Also, it seems to me that the FSX database is rather outdated and might not be inclusive of all the possible waypoints that a real world flight plan would utilize. Is there a way to update this database or are we stuck with vintage 2006 data? Thank you for reading. Cheers,
Jeff

Jeffery,
Hopefully I can help you out. Sadly FSX hasn’t updated any flight plans airports and navigation aids since 2006.
However I do know you can update the airports with AFCAD files from flyawaysimulation.com and or AV sim library. I prefer libraryavsim as it’s easier, although you’ll need an account.
For navigation aids I personally subscribe to Navigraph, it’ll update fmc data and navigation aids as well. Also a subscription as well but it’s well worth the money.
Also one other thing and tool I personally use for ATC update is Pro ATC x. Well worth the money. Although here recently the Captain sim III isn’t compatible with pro ATC x. I have discovered that.
Anyways I hope this helps.

Joe,
Outstanding information sir and thank you very much for taking the time to compose such a thoughtful and thoroughly edifying reply. I will indeed do as you have advised and look into the prospect of supplementing the meager flight planning options of FSX with alternative resources. Thank you again for the insights and recommendations, I really appreciate the thought. Cheers,
Jeff

Jeffrey, I will also suggest to take a look at simbrief.com, I use that website extensively to do flight plans, I believe you have to register but it is free. The cool thing about it is that you can set it to save the flight plan in different formats, making it easy to when you want to file a flight plan.
Another one flightaware.com when you open the site you can look below the first few lines and you will see "IFR Route Search" and click the link "recently used IFR routes" and it will show you RW flight plans for around the world.
Agree with Joe with the Navigraph, as he said, it is a paid subscription but well worth it.
Hope this helps.
Jay

Try using our Route Planner! It's updated and it should work with FSX without any issue!

I have not tried it recently but this link supposedly adds in all the new waypoints and GPS coordinates.

I keep forgetting about our own route planner. I also use SimBrief and can attest it works wonders. Especially planning fuel. I do recommend if you use Sim brief when customizing your “fleet” of aircraft to go off DVA Aircraft operating manuals for the numbers.

Jay, thank you very much for the reply and I wasn't aware of simbrief so I appreciate you taking the time to bring that resource to my attention. Flightaware is an excellent website as you say and I have made extensive use of it in the past. Thanks again for the input and the thought, it is much appreciated.

Soonho, thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my post. I will indeed look into route planner and if it contains all the current aeronautical chart data, then it would be precisely what I've been looking for and something to adequately supplement the otherwise outmoded content of FSX. Thanks again for the insight sir.

That is more or less what I have been searching for; something that will enable me to plot a route consistent with the routes as flown per rw Delta flight plans that are available on flight aware. Thank you for the excellent recommendation as well as for the time and consideration. Cheers,
Jeff

I will certainly try to use these programs in conjunction as you advise and I'm sure will be much more satisfied as a consequence. Thank you for the reply sir.
