One of Northwest's acquisitions was North Central Airlines, a central US regional airline centered out of Milwaukee, Detroit and Minneapolis. NCA was acquired by NW prior to the Delta merger and opened up a lot of local and regional routes in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the northern Mississippi valley. NCA started with DC-3's, Martin 404's and eventually DC-9's prior to changing its name to Republic Airlines in 1952 and being ultimately purchased in 1986. Quite a history.

Anyway, stay tuned for NCA to appear in the schedule along with some routes throughout what is looking today like a winter-wonderland. You should enjoy these multi leg routes that link smaller airports, some of which will be new to our database and in real life no longer see commercial flights. In the past, instead of hub and spoke systems, airline routes linked smaller airports in a chain with the larger ones.

I will start to populate the schedule over the next few weeks.

This is great Andrew, I loved North Central as a kid. These routes make for some tough winter flying at times riding the blue goose. They merged with another of my favorites the old smiley face Southern.

Actually, North Central was not 'aquired' by Northwest Orient. North Central, Southern and Hughes AirWest merged to form Republic Airlines-which was aquired by Northwest Orient and became just 'Northwest' (dropped the 'Orient' for marketing reasons). It was an interesting merger with flight crews being "Red Book"(NWO), "Blue Book"(RC), and 'Orange Book'(Post Merger NWA) pilots depending on contract cover color.

Northwest Orient operated Boeing 747-200 (Pax & Freight) Boeing 757s(P&W), 727s and Republic operated various DC-9s, 727s, RR powered 757, Convair 580s.

In the Airline Humor Department: Northwest produced a sticker that had the NWA logo surrounded by the words "Pride, Performance, Professionals". A week after it went up in the Operations Department some wag crossed out "Professionals" and penned "Propellors" over "Professionals".

Good history, Tim. Minor correction: I think Republic was referred to as the "Green Book" guys. It was not one of the better mergers conducted in the airline industry.

fascinating history! Thank you for putting in the work Andrew to open up these airports! I love flying into the smaller fields (with biggest plane that will fit, to give the citizens pause as I fly overhead!) and these will be a wonderful addition! New accomplishment maybe?
