Over the past several months I have not been able to complete a flight. I had a long run of over 4 years without an FSX issue, but alas, it appears my FSX has finally stroked out and it is time for a complete reinstall. I think now is also a good time for me to pull the trigger on P3dv4 and start the transition. There are some aircraft and scenery I love that will never be on P3D. How well doesFSX run on Win 10? I eventually plan to build a new rig and it will have Win 10

Jason,
Which version of FSX? I was able to get Fsx steam to run okay. I ran into several issues after flying for three years mixed on windows 8.1 and windows 10. I will say if you don’t have a lot invested in Fsx such as PMDG and captain sim then yeah go for it. You won’t have any OOM’s with P3Dv4.4 at least I haven’t had any.
I was able to get a bunch of my scenery’s to work with P3Dv4 I had to modify the taxi ways for my addon airports. There is a bunch of already properly converted scenery on avsim library. (Search P3D scenery and if it says P3Dv4 it’ll work)
Anyways I hope this gives some insight. Feel free to reach out as well if you have any questions or need anything. I myself recently made the change to P3D. And it’s amazing.

Hi Jason, P3Dv4 is the way to go with 64bit and some of the planes like the PMDG series, Captain Sim, Aerosoft, all look and feel great. However, you mentioned new rig and I think that is something that would help with the transition from fsx. P3D requires a little more under the hood. But to get started with your existing rig you can review the sliders and make sure there are not any background jobs hogging resources.

I recommend getting MSI Afterburner to review what is happening with CPU, GPU, Memory. I used it on p3D and found with my addon's I need to upgrade my memory to 32GB. My memory usage was at 12.5GB and I have 16GB. What I found was that my virtual memory was still getting hit and the swapping of memory was causing some slowness at congested airports. Most do not require 32GB. I just have a lot of addon's like GTX and ORBX and Active Sky. MSI Afterburner helps with this because each system is different and the tool will help you find trouble spots.

Thanks. I am still using the boxed version fax. I did purchase a copy of FSX Steam when it first went on sale for 5 dollars but I never installed it. Mainly because everything was working so well for me, I didnt want to change anything.
My current computer is 7 years old and is an i5 OC to 3.8ghz from 2.2ghz. (I dont remember the ghz honestly but those numbers are close.) Running on win 7 64bit and I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX560ti and 16gb of ram. I have my sliders at medium and I run many add ons including the orbs global packages, PMDG and FSDreamteam airports and I get about 14 fps when on the ground. Nothing amazing, but usable.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just finished uninstalling FSX and have purchased P3DV4 along with Active Sky P3D and the Majestic Q400 Pro edition to get me up and running. I have a good set of scenery and some aircraft as they are cross compatible with one purchase. I wish PMDG did the same or at least would offer a discount for the update, but oh well. In due time I will buy their aircraft to update it. I have a brand new hard drive for P3D that will only have P3D on it. Hopefully Ill be able to complete a flight with DVA within in the next week or so.

FSX Steam is the best because its in the cloud and runs great pending the power of your PC.
