I've seen several mentions of "connected logbooks" but I can't seem to find out what it means. Feel free to point me in the direction of a manual in the Fleet Library. I did check the Pilot and Online Flying Manuals prior to writing this message and those don't contain the info.

Gerard, if you always depart from the airport at which you last landed you logbook will be "connected" as you progress. Some do this but not my cup of tea.

It is my cup of tea mostly. there are some exceptions like when I am testing an aircraft or flying the checkrides to test them. For the most part, it try to fly from where I last landed. Totally up to the pilot though.

Interesting. That's where those charter flights then come in to help out in case you get stuck in some place in the world.

Yasss. But, you can request a charter occasionally for any flight not in our schedule database. Just don't abuse the privilege. If you'd like a charter, just request one via the help desk with origin, destination and aircraft and we'll set you up with a draft flight report in your log book. That way it will be approved.

Some people like to pick up and fly where ever, and others will always try to fly from the same place they last flew from. I tend to stick to the latter, which actually in some ways gets you flying to a lot more places than you ever thought. I've been trying to stick with a connected logbook since I've been here. There are a couple spots where that didn't happen but those were usually after taking a LOA and forgetting where I had last flown to.
But for me, one of the little challenges I have set up for myself is to try to hit every airport in the system. Last year I actually had hit them all but someone who shall remain nameless (cough cough andrew) added some new routes/destinations. But what makes it fun for me is actually planning out my routes to get to those airports. For instance he added 6 new airports in New England that weren't on the schedule before. But to get to those six airports actually is going to take 20 flights from Boston back to Boston. Which sounds like a lot but these are 50 mile flights which take about 15 minutes or so to fly. Especially when your new here and you see that list of airports not visited, doing a bunch of connected flights will make that list get smaller and smaller over time.
But that is me. It may be your thing and it might not be, but I will say it does add a little more of a challenge.

Now I will track your logbook Matthew and create new destinations as far from your virtual location as possible.... Hmm. I see you recently flew to SLC. I think we need to add a new 20 leg route to some vague airport in India that has no return flights.

I myself prefer a connected logbook. If I didn't, then I think I feel like I'd be in two places at one time. Weird huh?

I also don't like pausing my flights. I get this weird thought in my mind that I have 140 passengers stuck onboard
a 727 somewhere up in the wild blue yonder waiting for me to return back into the cockpit!

This is all part of my OCD. Everything's liked up perfectly on my computer desk too!

Ha ha. I must have some of the same OCD Brian. My wife will ask me where are you flying from tonight and I'll say "Minnesota because that's where my virtual self flew to last time". She's hoping this virtual self can start to pitch in with chores more at home.
