For xPlane pilots what is more important for maintaining FPS in the sim. xPilot implemented a rule that you must be over 30fps to be connected to the network because of the way they calculate airspeed and distance flown across the network. I have a decentish computer but apparently not decentish enough.

I have a AMD Radeon 5700XT graphics card (8GB vRAM), Ryzen 5 3600 6-core processor, 16GB RAM slots,

I never had a problem staying connected or having acceptable game play until the new xpilot versions came out and now im getting dropped constantly, my average fps is 25 which isnt enough by xpilot's standards. I have already turned the graphics down in hopes to boost performance but having no such luck especially when at busy airports like atlanta where lots of planes are doing all sorts of things.

My question is which component needs the most help if i were to upgrade down the road. Would stink to fly offline but im running out of options at this point.

Don't know if this helps since it's geared towards Intel, but just in case. https://www.game-debate.com/games/34028/x-plane-11/best-pc-build-for-1080p

Im really confused so it seems that my system should be having issues at all. I wonder if there are some FSX like tweaks i can make to the software to get more efficiency. Or maybe xPilot is just arbitrarily kicking me off for no reason. I checked my flight log from last night and i was average 30fps so i shouldnt be getting kicked off the network unless for some reason i have valleys in my fps chart that are dropping below 30 at times.

Update - i followed David's link and confirmed my settings should be adequate enough based on the article, i noticed that i didnt have vulkan graphics enabled which runs on openGL. I did some research on AMD settings and found people saying that using vulkan gives better performance for AMD systems so after work I will run a flight to see if that helps at all. I will update later.

Vulkan was a big help when I changed over to it. While I don't use it anymore, I used to use this plugin to automatically adjust rendering: https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/43281-3jfps-wizard11/

Additionally - there is a good guide on the BVARTCC board on tips for setting up X-Plane to work effectively on VATSIM, chief of which is the use of the Autospeed plugin (I have a pretty high performance machine so I don't have experience using that plugin) https://forum.bvartcc.com/topic/11982-starters-guide-to-x-plane/

I will have to try that although now im wondering if the issue is more internet related because i noticed that the last time i got dumped from the network i stayed disconnected, i kept flying offline and i kept hearing the ACARS program saying "welcome to ACARS" implying that i had lost connection to the server. Its possible i am getting bumped off the internet for a second or two at a time causing the vatsim server to drop off too.

Just an update - turns out the script auto-adjustment mod fixed the problem of frame rates, im now averaging over 30 at no loss of graphics. Thanks for that. The internet issue i was having was because my mom updated our internet package and to get the max benefit from the hardware we needed a newer more modern router. so both problems are fixed.
