I am preparing to modify a number SID and STAR flight plans. I am familiar with modifying .pln files but have one small difficuty. The files that I am most familiar with are in Notepad format that are headed [flightplan]. They are very user friendly. The protocol is easy to work with. The other flight plans are called SimBase.Document, also in Notepad format. Although the protocol is manageble it is nowhere near as user friendly.
I am currently looking at 5 .pln flies. Only one of them is a SimBase.Document. I have been unsuccessful in downloading this file in [fightplan] format.
Any tips would be appreciated.

You have two different format flight plans - the original FS2002/FS2004 INI-based format that start with [flightplan], and the other is the XML format introduced with FSX and continuing forward with P3D and FS2020. You probably want to get a free XML editor for the latter if you're not comfortable manually editing XML and dealing with text encoding differences (I believe P3Dv4 and FS2020 insist on UTF-8, not ASCII).
