Don't know how the PIREP system works on DVA but Tour PIREPS seem to take several days to get reviewed. I have one that's been sitting there for two days now and have had some wait longer to get reviewed. Is there a technical problem with the system? I realize that there are a lot of flyers here and that PIREP checkers have real lives which I'm sure impacts the workload negatively. I would like to fly tour legs more often so that I can finish a tour as timely as possible but occasionally stymied by the process. Perhaps it's just me but maybe others have the same questions. Maybe hire more PIREP checkers. Hopefully management takes this as a concern and not just grousing about things.

I have noticed that too. When I was new in the DVA, it usually got checked within the same day or maybe the next day, this was around 2019 to 2022. As of late, though, it really takes a long time, I have noticed. I once had a PIREP sit for a week awaiting approval, and now on avergae it takes days too. I have also noticed lately that the PIREP is usually approved by the aircraft chief pilot, so like if it was a 737 only the chief or assistant chief would approve, but before I noticed other people approve it. I understand that people are busy, but I thought I was the only one noticing how everything is getting done in the airline is taking longer and longer. Even when I requested additional ratings, it took almost a month to approve and get added. If the airline is hiring PIREP checkers, I would love to just do it, since I am frequently active in the airline. Just a suggestion: if there is so much workload for the airline, they can exclusively hire PIREP checkers, and that would relieve the workload of the chief pilots or the staff. They would still be able to do it, but others who are more active can help alleviate.

I have noticed the same, but my tour PIREPS have been quick. Given the technological progress since these systems were implemented (namely LLMs), perhaps its an idea for automating the PIREP approval process? Given the pilot manual, I figure approval is simply verifying flight details with VATSIM/ACARS records?

Out of curiosity, how does the PIREP process work at DVA? How many filed on a typical day? How does one become a PIREP checker?

Yeah you don't have to wait for it to be approved to fly the next leg. It just needs to be filed. As someone that finished it within a couple weeks, I never would have gotten done that quick waiting on PIREP approval.

When I was fairly new to DVA I messed up a tour leg big time and either read or was told to not fly the next leg until I re-flew the messed up leg. Reason being that getting a leg approved out of order would mess up my progress and I would have re-fly those particular legs. So I've been wary since then. Guess I'll just scoot along with the legs in order without completed leg necessarily getting approved and hope I didn't mess it up.
