I had tested MSFS 2020 on it I worked a charm. Everything was crisp and clear and scenery was beautiful with frames locked at 30fps. I didn't unlock the FPS so I never will know but it was a stable 30fps. Panning around the cockpit and outside views was smooth and snappy. Something I expected form a "desktop replacement".

So then I tried P3D v5.4. Still everything was fluid but it is the iteration of old FSX. Frames in it locked to 30fps.

X-Plane 12 runs fluid as well. All movements had no stutters. It is humming along at 50-60fps. Sometimes I see a peak of around 70fps.

I don't have FS2004 nor FS2024 so those haven't been tested.

For a whopping 1800usd This laptop has

ASUS ROG Strix G18 G814 FP-WS96
18 inch display
32GB DDR5 RAM
AMD Ryzen 9 9955HZ (up to 5.6GHZ) 16 core 32 thread CPU
AMD Radeon iGPU 512mb VRAM for less demanding apps.
NVidia RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 VRAM dGPU (dedicated GPU for gaming)
GPU MUX switching tied to built in display
1TB Micron SSD
I installed another 2TB NVMe SSD. Samsung 990 PRO 2TB

It is a huge laptop, and it runs cool. Alot cooler than an Alienware. Never felt heat coming off the keyboard. I still needed a laptop cooler. None of the brick-and-mortar stores locally have one big enough. Ended up obtaining the illano V13 laptop cooling pad. Works for laptops 15-21inches. It has the memory foam "seal" keeping air flowing into the laptop. Very effective. The fan in the cooling pad seems to be a blower and not the traditional fans used in budget cooling pads.

If you want to sim on a laptop this laptop is a good candidate. Walmart doesn't display this higher end laptop. I had to ask the associate at the counter for it. It is also on Amazon as well as direct from Asus's E-Store. I have found that there is different memory configurations for the G18 and you really have to read when shopping. Some have only 8GB some have 16GB RAM for the most part. These are less expensive options but for 32GB and 64 GB RAM you can upgrade it but the cost of that comes pretty close to having one pre-installed with 32GB or 64GB RAM. 64GB Ram is the most it can take.

NVMe installation was a breeze. The laptop can handle up to Gen5 NVMe's but those are kind of rare. Gen4 runs fine. Snappy read/write. Each NVMe slot handles up to 4TB. It takes 80cm NVMe's.

There are alot of options that may be worse or better but this laptop has been good so far.

Thats super interesting, Doyle. I was looking at this rig and did not get it, but may be in the market for a new one in the new year
