For those of you that have been paying attention to the DVA2006 web site, our issue list has been rapidly expanding, and I've been slowly closing off the issues. Thanks to the efforts of James Brickeel, Matt Creed, Terry and Ralph the site has been improved. From ther experiences, I am confident that we are really, really close to having a stable, working system.
Terry and Ralph have exercised the basic roster system, and have given all of you access to approve/reject PIREPs, as well as grade examinations. They have provided excellent feedback to James and myself. Now, it's your turn.
Please log into the DVA2006 site at http://golgotha.deltava.org/ Look around. Edit your profile. Upload a new signature, or remove your signature. File a few PIREPs. Use some times that make sense, and some that are too long/too short. Go into the Testing Center and sign up for an examination. Write it. When you're done, take a look for submitted PIREPs and randomly approve or reject a few. Don't reject/approve too many PIREPs, since others need their shot too. Just verify it all works.
And when it doesn't (and something will break) please go into the Issue Tracker and log it. If you get an error, copy the stack dump to your clipboard and paste it in. That helps me and makes my life easier.
We need your help in getting DVA2006 out the door in 2005. In 2001, we had a web site that blew the doors off of our competition. After four years, they're finally starting to catch up to us. In 2006, our competition might approach the level of our Fleet Installers as of 2004. DVA2006 is going to blow the doors off of them yet again. What you are testing is just the tip of the iceberg. The new code allows remarkable functionality such as advanced mapping and aircraft tracking - but we nede to ensure that the basic stuff works just as well as the existing site. Again, I greatly need the web site shaken out, so I can turn my attention towards the ACARS server, the Fleet, and the stuff that will make our technical infrastructure unparallelled for another half decade.
When you have everything working, we're going to open things up another level to the pilot community. We're going to need pilots to take tests and checkrides. The promotion workflow in DVA2006 is designed to make your lives easier. If it doesn't, your feedback will lead to changes that will.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers!

Luke, about those NOTAMS, are those going to be actual FAA NOTAMs, and will we get flight dispatch releases like the ones I e-mailed to you?

Dear Luke, first Congratulations for DVA WebSite... in my Opinion it's the best VA website that I've ever seen.
Welll, I always try to be close to real flights in my simulated flights, So I usually take a time reading Metars, TAF NOTAMs etc... But at our Pilot Center I'm trying to get Metar Information but it is never available .. Like
No METAR observation from XXX is available in our system.
and I didn't see any TAF information.....
Do you Know if we can fix it or another good Metar/Taf Web information?
Best Regards and again Congratulations you guys...

Hopefully, we will have simulated flight dispatches available, which will contain NOTAMS, METARs, TAFs, and SIGMETS.

Steve, if I'm not mistaken, the data in DVA2006 is a few weeks old - just for testing purposes.

The way I was importing PIREPs was hideously slow and inefficient on anything other than Ethernet. It failed halfway through, and I didn't want to restart.
However, if I use mysqldump to dump the PIREP tables from my home database, I can ZIP them into a 2MB file and then run them on the remote server. I've imported them into a test database, and it seemed to work. I'll upload them again tonight. We'll either get all of the PIREPs, or none.
And yes, there is functionality to display all Water Cooler posts since your last login. I'll need to test it out.
Cheers!

Brittany, I've received your simulated flight dispatches. They're not going to be in the initial release, but I'm going to see what Matt and I can cobble together.

I'm having a problem of being logged-out while composing a post. If I've checked e-Mail, gone to get a beer, let the dog out, or anything that has exceeded the time limit, my post is gone when the screen pops up after trying to post and says: YOU ARE NOT LOGGED IN. PLEASE ENTER YOUR LOG-IN AND PASSWORD.
AND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE TIME LIMIT IS!!! HELLO!
The post I was writing is POOF. A smattering of electrons in cyberspace. I can't even back-up to retrieve it because the page ain't there.
This is very frustrating. Hell I might have been typing for 10 minutes past the limit and I'd never know it. Even if HAD been sitting here the whole time.
Please fix this auto-log-out problem. This is the only site I've been to that has an auto-log out-script, (besides e-bay) no auto log in, and still has full access to the fleet library for members with no flights being logged open to whatever free-loaders might want to join just for the aircraft, never fliy a flight, and we never hear from them in the Cooler...
The Boeing 727 engine shop is performing Hot Sections right now, and I'm first on the list.

Looking good. I see that you're still using frames. Wasn't one of your goals to not use frames? I also noticed that it's valid XHTML. That's good. I strongly recommend you keep it that way. (And valid CSS too if you use it.)

Those weren't simulated flight dispatches. Those were actual Delta flight dispatches from June 1 and June 8.

Love the site....
However, I can't log in....it appears as if the pilot database might be a bit old...is that why?
Keep up the good work! I want everyone to see my screw-ups! (LOL)
